Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Started prepping the truck for the 2014 Hotrod Power Tour. Pulled off the old headers and exhaust and upgraded to 2.5 ram horn exhaust manifolds, started working on a single to dual pot master cylinder conversion, checked fluid in trans and rear and started a tune up.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Still working on odds and ends getting ready for paint I had to finish the rear drive train. The over drive unit finalized my decision to go from 3:08 to a 3:73 rear gear. I had some terrible spring perches on the axle, I made some new ones and welded them on. The truck would be no fun without a posi traction, so along with the gear change I went with a Yukon Dura grip unit. Had the new drive shaft made to fit the overdrive. All this along with the stabilizer bar and traction bars I can check a lot of items off the to-do list.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Added a little bling to my 55 2nd 3100. One of my differential cover bolts was just about stripped, so headed down to Ace hardware and checked out their stock of bolts. Chrome were $2.50 each, ouch! So I went with cad plated for 50cents a pop. 5 bucks and the problem was solved, and the bolts show up nicely in the headlights, especially cause my trucks rear is sky hi!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Got my 1 piece smooth rear bumper from Gibbons yesterday. Another project.
Cut the bumper bolt heads and made threaded plates to smooth the front bumper as per Kabwe's instructions. Made brackets and have the 944 Porsche mirrors ready to mount. Talked to the painter and looks like the end of April We go to the paint shop. Lots to do but I hope We can get it together!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Did some wiring for the LS swap. Had to add some length to a few wires and repair a few that were damaged. Got the under-dash side done last night, under-hood (so to speak) hopefully tonight. Then on to building a fuse panel. -Panelrodder

Sitting on my chair staring at the truck I designed these. I do have a patent pending on the design and would like to find an interested vendor though. I haven't been able to try them yet as the truck isn't done. But when I am done I hope to attach a camera under the truck and watch the springs with and with out the traction bars. Could be an interesting view. Thanks for commenting, Jim |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
After about a week I got out there today and did something! My new welding shield, it is all that and more, damn guys, I am reborn this thing is just what I needed! http://www.safetysupplieszone.com/Uv...FU5efgodsG8AYg This shield with a #5 shade is the Holy Grail for gas welding with bi-focals!
I switched to a smaller tip and using the .035 wire for filler and it was sweet. This certainly doesn't look like perfection but it's a lot better than I was doing and there is actually about an inch of it that is a real "bead". My wife gave me some of the high tech pattern material that is needed for this high level of fabrication. I made a pattern of the upper door frame that I bent last week to match the roof. So with the patter taped up on the cab I closed the garage door for the day. I'll trim the pattern and use it to cut the frame and weld it in. Brian; the oxy acetylene welding king. PS: I also ordered a 49-54 Passenger car outside door handle on ebay today. I am tossing the idea of switching the door handles to the newest push bottom motorific masterpieces.

Just go this bichin work bench from goodwill for $7!
It's a 1.5" thick slab of wood, 5' wide, by 2.5' deep. Very substantial. |

Used my spotting scope mount to put my digital camera on the passenger window and do a video of Gampa driving his old truck around the block. For my 3 granddaughters, for Valentines day, they live in Kentucky.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Moved the 57 to Kingsland yesterday. Now I can concentrate on the leaky 200r4. Looks like the front seal might need replacing or the front of the pan is leaking.
Must look at the home made trans support bar. I is made from channel and is not attached to the frame on either side. Could the trans be shifting? |
