Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Did a rat rod clear coat a friend thought me. Works pretty good for transmission fluid lol made my 57 GMC look pretty good. Then I stripped my 59 down to the frame then mounted a mustang gas tank in the rear and wanted to see if you can see it with the bed on. So far I like it just wish I had a shop!!

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Here is a side shot. Thanks Jim for the kind words. I like your ride as well. I was sick when I seen the post about hitting the deer.
I can't take credit on building this truck. I raced small boats for about 30 years and wanted to do something different. I sold the racing stuff and the search was on. Never had a "cool" car and set out to buy something "cool". Didn't think I would ever get one done if I started from scratch. I have been doing a lot of small stuff to it. I will try and join in on posting a little more. Love reading and looking! 383 stroker with TH350, Ford 9" with 3:56 gears, 79 Grand Prix clip Last edited by Kevin Mac; 04-20-2017 at 09:55 PM. |

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Thanks Lower50's, I have had fun with it so far. 400 miles since November. Been making it "mine" doing small things. I don't think they are ever done.

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
I live in monroe I didn't want a reproduction I like to keep things all original. I like the fun trying to hunt for the parts and cleaning them up and putting them back to use and with the hat grill I was a pain to find.

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
I do too, when ever possible, I find the original parts fit better, are made from better materials and are often cheaper, Cheaper is also very good, I sent you a PM maybe you didn't find it, I would like to buy that section of Grill from you, have you seen any Bumper overriders? do U have any Badges? Mine is a V8 truck with the Pontiac Motor, would like to find the V8 badges too. And the Tach, I saw a beautiful Tach on eBay but no drive for it, and my speedometer is faded to the point it can't be read any more.

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
My pretty much daily driver 51, 3600. Original, not rebuilt 216 (yep, 85hp baby) with a WC T5, .72 5th gear and 4.10 rear gears. Huck brakes refreshed and modern 16" tires now.
Drove it from central Arkansas to Luckenbach Tx about a month ago, 1.300 miles. The trip's excuse was to see the bluebonnets, but fact is the beer and music at Luckenbach was the real reason, just don't tell the wife. Round trip was 1,300 miles and luckly no problems, just a nice enjoyable back road drive. Ron Last edited by moparguy; 05-06-2017 at 03:06 PM. |

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Dan, thanks for the compliment, the Moparguy handle comes from another of my vices, the 340 Duster I've had for 46 years is shown below. But...the 51 is photobombing the Duster. And I do agree with your wheel suggestions, a couple weeks ago I did attach hub cap clips (from Chevy's of the 40's) on one wheel. Unfortunately they're too short and I'll need to MacGyver up some 1/2" spacers.
Ross, I've just (last week) installed the 4.10s, replacing the stock 4.57 gears we had on the Luckenbach trip. On that drive, happy cruise was 55 mph. Now with the 4.10s and local two lane driving, it's looking like 60 to 65 is going to be very OK. I've got a minor but annoying vibration that occurs at about 62mph, this is a bit of a speed limiter. Brakes are another. If you're asking due to considering a T5, my suggestion is do your due diligence, find a transmission with a .72od and go for it....you'll like it.
