Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Just ordered a new grille from LMC, should have it Wednesday the 29th. Before we put it in we will paint the white accent that surrounds it. I have noticed alot of guys leave that area body color, I think it looks better white, and apparently the factory did too!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Oil Filter was leaking.
Spun the old one off. Cleaned splattered oil underneath the truck. Spun the new one on. Dang Autozone Plastic Creeper broke and split where the bolts are on the caster. Need a dog bone creeper. It's trash now..... Shook my head. Threw my hands in the air and said, "Serenity Now!" Stuff happens

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Completed ding and dent repairs on the passenger side of the firewall, sprayed the bare metal areas with etch primer, and finished most of the sanding. Also fabricated new gaskets and mounted the heater plates. Pulled the carb and distributor (for open access) as the last task for today. If all goes according to schedule I’ll finish sanding the area behind the engine tomorrow, mask on Thursday and spray on Friday.

For this project there really wasn’t much overspray because I decided to paint the engine compartment with Raptor bed liner. I wanted something textured and durable that wouldn’t chip when I piled wrenches on the inner fenders, would look different but hot rod appropriate, and would require very little maintenance. For a long time I considered painting the engine compartment in Zolatone which was popular back in the 60’s, but it isn’t rust proof or nearly as durable. As of a month ago I was going to shoot it in gloss black enamel, until I saw a couple of other projects covered in the stuff, and found some favorable reviews. I’ve also had great results with other UPOL products. After about 40 hours of prep, I finally shot it this morning and by this afternoon had everything back together with the engine running. All that’s left now is to tie up the driver side wiring, repaint the hinges and springs, and get the hood back on. |
