Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
Found a thread that may help you with bypassing the VATS when you get to that point. Hopefully I can leave this here; if I need to delete it and send it in a PM, let me know, I'm not sure if it's ok to post a link to another website?

Hate to see Halfbreed go away, but congratulations on getting the parts car. That little Porsche should really rock now!

Yay me! I successfully extracted the motor and trans together out the top of a 4th gen. Man was it tight! Nothing broken and no blood - it was a good evening!

The Camaro harvest is over and it's ready to head off to the crusher.

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
My last shot is with the L67 lined up in front so I can stare at alllll the various tradeoffs at once.
So far the L36 is fitting pretty well. I will have some challenges with the steering shaft and the exhaust header... plus whatever I don't know about yet. And the only way the L67 is going to work is if I either move the 944's HVAC unit over towards the passenger side of the cowl or, delete it and rig some other HVAC unit in it's place. Both motors have the same high point which is the alternator - it's above the 944's hood line no matter what. I'll probably put a bump in the hood rather than try to change the alt mount. |

Just waiting for the next installment of stuff you have done. It is good to watch you work thru all this stuff. Great work.

A bump in the hood would be fitting on the "euro" car.
Love this thread.

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
The 944's aren't all that popular, but I really like them. My first car was a 85.5 stone gray metallic with a 5 speed. Pretty slow, but I loved it. Yours should make for a fun toy!

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
I'm trying to get rid of the Camaro carcass without having to tow it down to the wrecking yard. The normal internet places that "buy you junk car" don't want my Camaro because I already took the valuable stuff off of it. And scrap metal places don't seem to want it because it's a car not a washing machine.
Anybody got suggestions? Thanks! |

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
Thats weird because I usually take my junk cars to a scrap yard. As long as the gas tank is removed, and all fluids drained they accept it. Just have to fill out end of vehicle life papers confirming I own the vehicle. Not an out of ordinary thing for the scrap yards here..odd that they would not accept it maybe California laws concerning vehicle disposal? What about hauling it down to an auto junkyard?

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
The JY will take my vehicle but I have to haul it there. None of the tow trucks will come to me unless the vehicle is more popular and has most of it's valuables still on it. I am asking if anyone knows a way to get the carcass hauled off my property without me having to tow it myself.

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
Sawzall and bury it to so your land has more mineral content.
Sorry all I can come up with after sweating down here this morning working in the shop

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
Craigslist it? Some scrap metal enthusiast might want it for the metal even with prices as low as they are. Or sawzall it into small pieces and haul it to the scrap yard in the back of your truck?

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
I've always liked the SVT wheels. I'm guessing offset/spacing will work out fine with them? Will you have to modify the fenders at all? Im wondering if the fronts will require some massaging? Those will look great on the 944!

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
Nice looking wheels. Will they clear the Porsche's panels? Those style Porsche's always seem to have such tiny wheels. But then again you and ur sawzall are real good friends.

Re: Porsche 944: Actually there is a substitute
Some pics of the new meats.
I almost made it on the rears - but not quite. Fronts will also need mods. But I was actually expecting worse. The fronts go lock to lock! (But they just hang out the sides and barely clear the fender lip!) |

Might be time to take a baseball bat and do a fender roll.
They look nice on there.

They do look good on there. Few little tweaks and you should be good.
