Crash's 69 K10

Started off Saturday by getting the lower rocker area ready for the rocker.




Then I patched all of the rust spots I found sandblasting yesterday..




Then I did the cutout for the high hump..





Finally this evening I cut the firewall out of the old cab to put in the new.. I need this to keep the foot brake…





My lovely wife and I took a mid-afternoon boat ride.. We found a friend.. 3 ½ ft. cotton mouth..

I decide to kill it, due to the little kids running around the marina…

Thanks.. Yes it seems like I have been working on this cab for a couple of years.. The mechanical and electrical stuff comes so easy for me.. this rust repair seems so foreign...
I am looking forward to getting started on my doors..

Very nice work Mark! You have come a long ways in a short time on this cab, especially only getting to work weekends on it. I can only imagine you would be painting it if you had in your garage at home. Nice looking viper you found there.

Sunday I got to spend a few hours on the cab.. I started off by sandblasting the patch I cut out of the old cab. While I was at it I sandblasted the parking park and main brake supports..




Then I welded in the patch.. This will allow me to use the footbrake instead of the hand brake.






I am thinking of using the piece I cutout on the other side to balance out the firewall. I would need to patch a hole or two, but it has the right shape and the correct lip..



Next weekend I will start patching the firewall...

Thanks Mike.. Not sure where I would be if I had access to it everyday.. Sometimes I think it is a good thing for it to be a couple of hours away..

Speaking of paint and primer.. When are you going to start on yours?

Nice work! I really think it makes the engine bay that much nicer when the firewall is balanced like you're considering.

What did you end up doing about the extra wires on your Range selector switch? Also I have extra wire on my TAC, which I beleive are for the cruise control. Should I leave them in the harness to set up cruise later? Or are aftermarket cruise systems like the one dakota digital has stand alone as well? Just having some brain farts. I think I have been staring at this harness to long!

I did not use the extra wires in the range selector switch. I kept the extra wires off of the TAC - They are for the cruise.. and I plan to use them.. It is easy to have a few brain farts dealing with the wiring harness.. lol...

Not finished with the firewall yet.. Still have to finish welding it, and then I have tons of grinding and sanding to do..

Hopefully I can get that done tomorrow.. I need to figure out what to do about seats and get that fab up soon...

Firewall looks awesome, I like the job you did on capping the wire gutter like mike's, I'm going to have to do that on mine also. and the patch for the passenger side to match the curve too, great idea to re-use that piece. You are knocking it out like a pro but faster Man those Boyd tanks are super fine, high quality pieces! I almost dont want to cover mine up because it is so nice looking. Awesome quality and excellent aluminum welding for sure! Later

Finished welding and grinding the firewall today.. I still have some more work to do on it.. but it is good for now.

Mounted the new Boyd’s gas tank. I mounted it on top of the lower frame rail instead of underneath.






I guess I need to lose some weight.. When I was on my back lower the almost full gas tank the welds on the creeper snapped.




I guess I need to start posting in the for sale area… I have lots of stuff I need to move…

It’s all about priorities.. You have lots of things going on that I don’t.. My progress will slow this summer.. it was awesome today at the lake.. I should have been on the water..

Not a lot of work done this weekend.. My daughter turned 15, so we spent some time hanging out, and eating…

I did pick up a set of seats for mockup (Thanks to Tanner at B&R Auto salvage in Tulsa – Great people to work with). Not sure if I will keep these, I like the style and the bowtie emblem in the middle of the seats. The leather is nice except for the driver’s side bottom, and the cloth inserts are dirty.. I will clean them up and see what I think. The seats are powered and they work very well.

I wanted to mount the seats utilizing the front seat mounting location (The raised area that the original seats mounted to). In addition, I wanted to reinforce the mounting system due to the integrated seatbelts. I was more concerned with the rear mounting system than the front. The front is naturally reinforced due to the nature of the raised area. The rear is flat with no natural support. I did use the orignal rear mounting location for two bolts on each side of the truck. In addition I was able to tie the mounts to the floor support system in two places.










The area under the floor will be reinforced with plates and strapping. I will post those pictures next week after I have welded them in.

I also finished the install of the fuel lines for the new gas tank.



Last, but not least, the vintage air system arrived. I have not opened the boxes yet, but I will next week to fab up the mounting system for it.




Not sure about the seats. I love the way the feel and look, expect for the headrest. I don’t really like the headrest in the back window look, but they are what they are, and they are safer in a rear end collision (if the floor mounts hold ).
