Re: 72 k20
Me too - I can't say that I've ever seen an example posted here and I sure haven't seen one in person.
BTW - I swear I saw a 4wd throttle cable listed on GMC Pauls - I was pleased to see that an option was finally made available and made note of it. Guess I'm mistaken, sorry for the confusion.

Re: 72 k20
No worries Pete, I actually swore up and down Wes had them 6 months or so ago my self, makes me wonder if maybe they aren’t selling them due to quality issues or something of the sort.

Re: 72 k20
Haven’t done that much in the last couple weeks but I did get my front 60 housing stripped and painted less the cover. Started to paint the knuckle/brake parts this week.
I did realize the unfortunate truth that one of the things I’ve been avoiding the most since I started working on this truck is going to have to be addressed. The windshield rubber has started leaking pretty bad from the drivers top corner, the rubber is split there. I hope to tackle this in the next month or so. Luckily we don’t get much rain here.

Re: 72 k20
Thanks, It’s getting there. I’m planning to order king pin parts here soon. I bought another truck to part out yesterday so it may pull me off of this truck for a bit.

I have never torn into one of these. My uncle did all that for me and he is gone. I wish I had paid more attention.
Sure looks good.

Re: 72 k20
The king pins are quite simple actually. Far stronger and easier to work on than ball joints are. For about $150-200 you can redo the pins on both sides with dana/spicer parts. I wish all the old solid axle trucks had them.

Re: 72 k20
Cleaning up real nice. Finding a low cost decent D60 around here is next to impossible. I am probably going to go with reman Boyce or have a high pinion one made. Will not be much more after all the parts going into to it.

Re: 72 k20
Richard, you nailed it. They are getting really hard to find around here even in complete trucks. I’ve got a couple more dually 60’s stashed but the problem is finding used single wheel hubs. You can get new ones but by the time you buy new hubs, bearings, races, seals and brakes your close to 1K.

More Dana 60 progress... well just a little... I blasted the cover and steering arm this evening. Probably paint them one day next week.

Re: 72 k20
Read through most of your build. Love all of the work you have accomplished so far and all of the build info that you give.
I know you stated that eventually you'll get to the paint, it is a unique and interesting color combination for sure. |

I took it out to my desert stomping grounds this morning to play in the fresh snow we got, here’s a picture or two; I intended to create a new thread in the 67-72 general section showing off some of the better shots i took. I also plan to order a new front bumper and supporting parts this week.

Re: 72 k20
Thanks for posting those! Fun in the snow for sure. I’d take my k20 out in the snow about my house in MT. Not risking the salt corrosion here in WI.

Re: 72 k20
Tyler, this is when they are the most fun. I have ruined a lot of good vehicles by restoring them.

Re: 72 k20
Well I’ve at least gotta get it mostly the same color... maybe then my wife will ride with me in it more! my kids already love it especially my son.
Pete, as you know, it’s the same up here most of the time, no salt just wait for the snow to melt. They will salt if it gets more than 2-3 inches on the roads except for the big hills. The snow was a blast.

Re: 72 k20
I got this from UPS the other day. Waiting for the brackets still. Also took the second picture of 3 of my 4 trucks today. The 57 hasn’t run in about 2 years or I’d have put it in the picture ...yea I know, I need to get on that. The Camaro doesn’t stay at my house as I don’t have a garage/shop to keep it in at home, other wise I would have got a whole GM family shot.
