Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

Made my seat track connecting rod today welding up a couple 3/16" rods. Tried to duplicate the factory setup as close as possible...

Should get the seat installed tomorrow, and start installing the fenders and grille.

That black and red looks so sharp. Almost wants to make me paint mine that way instead of red on red. Nice work.

I agree. GM did some great things back then.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

I've been following along, and as others noted that red interior looks amazing!
Definitely like the 2nd iteration of the seat upholstery, and the 'subtle' detail of the dash area painted black against all the red, ...man that thing pops!
Awsome work , this truck is perfect

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

This truck deserves more attention than I’ve been giving it. I just ran out of steam.

My 11-yo daughter is really wanting to drive it when she turns 16, so we decided we would work together to get it across the finish line. It’s sooo close…

Today we installed the headlamps, wipers (OEM from the board that I buffed up), and bumper brackets.

More to come soon hopefully.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

I got the inner fenders loosely installed.

Then I remembered this problem with the lower fender mounts. I am thinking I will try and see if I can redo what I removed. If anyone has any advice, I’m all ears. It’s the same on both sides. I know the correct repair is to replace the pillars, but I am not ready for that project.

Before I disassembled the front end, it had these large concave washers installed by the PO, something like below.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

I do have these, I could try to carefully cut through just the outer layer of sheet metal, just wide enough to bolt these in. I think that will be a better interim solution.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

I got the fenders and grille bolted up loose today. I think the body lines will be ok for now without shimming the body and core support mounts.

Sounds great. I love the red interior against the black exterior.

Your interior looks nice! Now I know what mine will look like since it also came from the factory in the same colors but mine did not have AC and mine will have cloth inserts in the bench seats.

Good job!

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

Thanks!

Mine came with fawn interior originally but I like the red much better. I decided since I’m not going 100% factory I would make the seat match the door panels rather than the cloth inserts.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

I'm assuming you had to lengthen the front wiring harness to run the headlight wiring inside of the front fender? Did you just splice them in or replace all wiring new? I've been thinking about doing this, it's a much cleaner look.

Nice work on your daughters truck! Rg
