2.0 tip.. I really think it is a problem with how fast I was moving the gun. Near the end of the spraying I started going really slow with the gun and the results were much better.

The tech sheet for your high build should recommend a tip. On mine it is 1.5-2.0. i used a 1.5 and it worked fine. SPI epoxy primer sands nice and is not near as pricey as PPG. I wouldn't worry much about how the high build looks after it is shot since you will be sanding most of it off anyway. 2.0 is a big tip so you may just need to adjust the material down some.
If you shoot epoxy, most epoxy primers have a 7-day or so "window" where the next layer will chemically bond to the primer so there is no need to scuff.

Looks great, I'm doing the exact thing to my cab. I'm in the test fitting phase on the passenger side sheet metal. Glad to see you documented the entire rust repair. Its going to be alot of help to me.

No work done of the Cab this week. I had the pleasure of replacing the batteries in our lake cart. They weigh a little over 100lbs a piece. Could have bought a Dakota Gauge set for what they cost.

Great weekend at the lake. I only had a few hours to work on the truck. I disassembled the bed.
I have some rust to deal with on the floor, but the bed sides look to be on great shape. I also modified the old seat that was in the truck for the shop, and built a stand for the TV in the shop. Sunset on Lake Eufaula… Next Friday I hope to sand blast the floor and shoot epoxy primer.. Hopefully cut out the rusted spots out.

Another very slow weekend.. I am playing too much to get very much done…
I did start sand blasting the floor of the bed. Got the bottom of the bed completed and most of the top. I need more blasting media to finsh up. Of course we have to have some rust.. it is only right.. Need to find an old bed to cut out the pieces I need, or maybe I can order something to fix the issues. The bed has some drilled holes from different things being mounted in it. I think it may have had a propane tank mounted in it at one time. Hopefully over the next few weeks I can get the floor of the bed repaired, cleaned up, and primered. Starting to think about the doors.. I am considering buying repo doors but have heard nightmares about fitment issues. If any has an option on some doors being better than others please let me know.

Wow! Great build! I wanted to know if you made your own fuel cell or purchased it? Also, it appears that it hangs a little lower than the tank you had before. I'm trying to decide which way to go as we have a rear tank from a Suburban we can use, but I love the look of your new one.

Check out page 26 of the LMC online catalog, part #38-9628. Kind of pricey for a patch, but the only one I know of available other than buying the small bed floor patches (which don't have the rib ends) or a new floor. You can use the middle sections of another truck bed floor, but fing one that is not hammered bad or rusted can be a challenge because usually it won't be available to cut up. I had some pieces of a blazer bed floor from one I parted out and I made some with just flat sheetmetal for small spots.

Looks like you have a plan to fix the bed. Your blaster works great. I need to get one of those as much as I hate blasting......
It was good to finally get to see your build in person. The pictures don't do justice to how good it really looks in person. You have a top notch build going. This truck will be super nice when done. Don't sweat the progress. This time of year is lake time..... |

Decided to bring my engine lift back to the shop and test fit the cab before I finish up the body work on it.
I had a couple of problems. The transmission lines I hand built need to be modified at the transmission area. Also the front of the cab needed to be raised a little to get the front fender to line up correctly. I installed the old rusty inner fenders and started looking at how I was going to mount the computer and wiring. I originally was going to mount the computer, fuse block, wiring, relays, and wiring terminals on the driver’s side inner fender, then I considered mounting it all under the dash, now I am back to mounting it all on the inner fender again.. Thoughts from you guys? I also started looking at the AC lines. I am not completely happy with where I mounted the bulkhead connector, but I think I can make it look ok.. I just need to figure out how to route the lines. I am considering buying new doors and inner fenders. I think GMCPaul sells a door that fits somewhat well out of the box. The only problem is shipping. I am planning on buy a cowl hood when I get the doors and maybe the inner fenders. LMC and others have free shipping on orders over $1000 dollars; my understanding is that GMCPaul does not. I guess I will give them a call and see what they can do.. Anyone have opinions on repo doors? How about the hood and the inner fenders, anything I should know about those? I also want to wish my Dad a Happy Fathers Day…. Love you dad…
