Man heavychevy, you just love bumping my thread to a new page don't you! I think for now I will just remove it all, and see if I want to put some new stuff in sometime in the future.

Re: Senior Project Build
I love Sony Xplodes..got a cheap one in the truck right now. Sounds like it's worth much more than I paid for it.
That cam is sweet! What a lift...you're gonna be thumpin for sure! And yeah, the motor will come on it's own time...best to get the parts in line before it gets here so that it all goes fast. Wish I'd have had the smarts to get a 5.3 or 6.0 back when I had the cash I spent on that MCSS in 2001.

Re: Senior Project Build
Ya I wish I would have just spent the money from the beginning on an LSX motor, instead of squandering and wasting time with the old Gen I

Re: Senior Project Build
Yessir...just spent $1500 last year during the dead of winter changing out this motor. I have the original 350 that we pulled and had rebuilt.
Then I rebuilt the TH350 to the tune of $550. I don't even wanna think of how much cash I spent in the meantime...coulda prolly bought Gen lll motors for both trucks. Funny but a year ago I woulda never even thought of doing this swap, now I am chompin' at the bit to get the 454/400 swapped out for the 5.3/4L60e so I can start collecting swap parts!

Re: Senior Project Build
Ya it was this time last year, I was on a mission trip to the Galapagos Islands, and had my trusty stash of Car Craft mags with me. They were doing the story on the budget 6.0 build, and that got the wheels turning. I always thought it would be too expensive, but when I see how much I spent on the old motor I realize that I should have just done it right the first time....

Helping out on a community center building project. It was great, I missed so much school last year while I was traveling.

Re: Senior Project Build
So I got the CD player and crappy speakers, out, man did they leave a mess.
Ghetto Holes.... So here is my simple fix to cover the holes. I traced the speaker ring.... Cut it out with tin snips..... Gave it a coat of paint.... And presto! Hokey block off plates, at least there isn't a big hole there. |

Re: Senior Project Build
Are you going with a carb'd setup? I would recommend changing the valve springs to the Comp 918's.
That thing has nice duration, and the 109* will seriously lope. Mine has less duration, but more lift and is on a 114 + 4*. Great start!

Thanks for the heads up SCIV, I have been considering changing springs. Comp 918's are the way to go eh?

Re: Senior Project Build
I went and met a guy and sold him my heater box and stuff. He was installing it in a '69. He hadn't heard of this site, so I told him he should come visit and sign up. Maybe he will convert, I feel like such a disciple!

Your stereo was a mess?
All that crap was stuffed between the radio and the bottom of the dash. Not a single wire was cut to the right length Onlinecarstereo.com is also a good place to shop |

Re: Senior Project Build
Regardless of functionality I ALWAYS list this type stuff on craigslist. Either at a huge discount or free...someone can always use it. I gave away two things today and sold three. The laptop card and the DVD player that has no sound were given away. The guy called me later and told me that he fixed the DVD player and wanted to know if I wanted it back, I told him no, we had already replaced it.
I sold three working tools I no longer need within 18 hours of listing them...the hell with ebay these days!

Re: Senior Project Build
Ya I like craigslist so much better than ebay, screw trying to ship all these large items. Good job on getting all your stuff sold, I need to sell a bunch of mine to be able to afford all the parts I'm buying!

Re: Senior Project Build
I cut the face off the old tape deck as a faux faceplate to place in place of my headunit's face plate while parked. Sure, having no face plate is less tempting, but looking like a tape deck is best.
I'll resuse that amp probaby for a small bazooka tube until I buy another amp off a friend when he pulls it off his truck. Craigslsit is awesome, you'll find all sorts of "OMG I WANT" sort of things on there. Like a 65 'Burb for 800 bucks that I wish I would of had money to grab. My engine and trans were from CL, as well as my gas tank and the xmas present springs and shocks from the same guy. Last edited by texanidiot25; 01-11-2009 at 01:54 PM. |

Re: Senior Project Build
Haha sweet Texan, that is an awesome idea to disguise the CD player like that. And I know what you mean about OMG I WANT! I have to stop looking trough CL because I always find something really cool that I really want.

Re: Senior Project Build
Man there is a guy locally selling one with an 80e and radiator and gauge cluster and everything imaginable out of a '99 truck, but he won't seperate. He wants 1800 for all of it, which seems like a fair price, but I don't have that much cash sitting on hand to buy it all. I have been calling him every few days trying to get him to separate, but he isn't going for it. I will have to find another one I think.

Re: Senior Project Build
More progress!! Kinda........ I got my FCG tank! It's beautiful. Now I just have to figure out how it all works....
FCG (Mark) wrote my "handle" on the box, it was modified by my friendly UPS man. He always loves to come in my garage and talk to me about my truck, guns, photography, all the stuff I am interested in. The packing is excellent, it took me like 5 min. to tear it all apart. And here she is!!! Bright and beautiful.... I'm not sure if you can see any of it from the rear, but if it hangs down, I will have to add some custom touches...... And I sold my old stock gas tank for $35.. met a guy right in Sherwood. He had just bought a '72, I told him about the board. Maybe another convert! |
