Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Whew, finally got word from the shop on those inner fenders - they are indeed new one's so all that was scratched was the coating they came with! They'll get powder coated prior to final assembly along with the core support - so no harm, no foul.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

All the engine accessories & related parts are now on their way to the shop finally! SHow they'll arrive on May 3rd & that'll let them finish up on the front-end mock-up. Didn't get to get a good end of week update tonight as our power was out over here & couldn't use the phones until after the shop had closed...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

All the engine front accessories & parts arrived at the shop today - they're hoping to get it all installed & fit tomorrow so they can check for radiator clearance. That'll also allow them to start getting my K&N intake kit mocked up!!! Working on getting all the new A/C parts ordered too, just gotta figure out which blower motor & evaporator version I have.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, no pics this week unfortunately... The new fuel tank is out at the radiator shop being lined & once it's complete they are gonna have the outside done in a smooth Line-X finish for even better durability!!! Radiator mock-up is on-going - they have to fabricate the cover plate I want & they want to get all that done before they thrown on all the accessories for the motor they just got in. Also still waiting on some additional information on my evaporator & blower motor before I can order all the new A/C & heater parts from LMC Truck. Week didn't end like I wanted update wise, but things are still progressing & guess I just need patience....

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, I ordered everything for my A/C system today from LMC Truck minus the evaporator because the shop still can't tell me which version I have & I don't wanna get the wrong one for them - they can just order it once they know. I even got new vent seals & tubing for it so it'll all be new again!
Nothing much else to report today as it was a usual Monday & not a whole lot got done... They are supposed to be starting up on the fabrication of my custom accessories this week - i.e., front push bar, side bar steps & headache rack. Looking forward to seeing their work on those since custom stuff like that is really their specialty! Should have more new pics later in the week - or else I'll get pissed! :-)

No you don't cause you just end up like me & spend it all.... And believe me, not rich by ANY stretch - just dumb enough to devote my extra resources to something like this & honestly if I weren't doing what I am doing overseas I wouldn't even have the opportunity!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Nice automobiles have been my achilles heel throughout the years & I guess they always will be. New vehicles though - especially trucks - just don't get me what I want so I had to go this route. Didn't start out to be such an in-depth build, but has just evolved into it along the way to my surprise... Baring a catastrophe though, this is my LAST big hoorah when it comes to expensive rides!!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Anyone out there have the two little "L" shaped clamps that mount the top of the radiator to the core support??? Seems like the shop misplaced my originals.... I need them for the 77 model year & much prefer the OE style to the universal ones offered by the aftermarket too. Worst case the shop has to fabricate them (at their expense) - the whole thing will be covered anyhow so guess it won't really matter to much.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Nothing significant to report from last week unfortunately... Had a pretty long conference call with the shop this evening as I was getting pretty frustrated at their lack of any significant progress the past few weeks. Feel pretty good about the understanding we came to as well as about being able to go over some of the upcoming exterior fabricated items with all involved instead of going over it one at a time & there being mis-communications or mistakes!
They did find the upper mounts for the radiator finally, but the aluminum radiator they bought from Ron Davis is wider than my stock one (as the truck was originally a SB) so they're just gonna fabricate new ones when they do the dimpled cover I want - so it'll actually be more of a real mount instead of something that was simply to dress up the top of the radiator.
That's the focus this week along with some other items in the engine bay, but with luck next week will see my side bar/step assemblies get built & can't wait to get pics posted on here of those!!!
July's coming quickly & hoping they get most of the mock-up & fab work done before I arrive at the shop - that way I can have them make any changes prior to it going to Novelli's for the paint & body.
Keep checking back!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, finally some quantifiable progress on the build again!!! They got the fab work done on the new radiator cover plate & I think it turned out really nicely. Of course they couldn't help but add yet another "WFO" emblem - as if there aren't already a bunch... Hehe

Core support still looks crappy since it hasn't been powder coated, but until they get the cold air kit installed & everything mocked up it'll just have to stay that way. They should be starting with bolting on the engine accessories & fabricating the side rail/steps next week & should have more pics before the weekend.

Did you ever figure anything out on billet hood hinges? If not you might get a hold of The Ring Brothers. I read that they are willing to do even the small jobs. Worth a try.

Not yet - Mario's still got a CNC guy we can use if necessary though so I'll have to see what happens with it. Won't really have to worry too much about it until the truck makes it him anyhow & that's starting to look more like July at this rate...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Fab work on the side bar/step assemblies got started this week - VERY excited to see the pics of those & will post them as soon as I get them!!! Told them not to include any "WFO" logo's on them though since the fender badges already have it on there & would be a little overkill...
