Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
wow, I thought this was locked a couple of pages back. but tomorrow if you pick the truck up, don't take it straight home. stop by a car wash so you can spray the bugs, rats, snakes away. you don't want to have that in your yard with possibly bringing new pest to your home.
wow 12 pages huhn? good luck on tomorrow's transactions. I feel like driving those 2 hrs up I77 just to witness this, im excited too.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Good luck kid, i been pulling for you from the start. When you get it home weather tom or next week. first on list is a big smile then just sit back for a few and enjoy the view. then and i cant stress this enough. DO NOT GET RID OF ANYTHING ON THE TRUCK!!!!! When i got my first truck home i tore into it and pitched alot of great items i wished i had today, so keep everything because in ten years you may want to change the appearance of your truck.
And for the record, I am the one who started the (lets all donate something to the kid) lets help the kid out and he can get his dream truck. I sent a pm to him and could never get his address so i am proud of him for standing alone on this one. Just remember what comes around goes around!

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
The donation thing is always a cool idea. Issue is 9 times out of 10 it fails hard. I have seen several attempts at helping other members over the years, even a time when the members bought a truck for a user. Sadly, most times they end up slapped in the face for doing so.
Schrum, good luck tomorrow. You have a busy day. DO NOT TAKE THE TRUCK APART... you need to do this step by step, label everything and take pics as you do.. if you do not you will end up with a giant heap that is beyond your knowledge very fast (no offence intended at all) If we wouldnt look like a bunch of stalkers (and have the server move to finish) I would round up our nc goof crew and go visit schrum tomorrow lol |

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Go ahead, tear it apart, get confused and stalled,I'll be by with 500 buck and a trailer by Christmas . Nah,seriously, get it home and let it marinade...although the car wash to rid the critters ain't a half bad idea.
Get us lots of pictures once it's home. Get ones we ask for till we're satisfied. We'll evaluate it and give suggestions from there. Prolly go like this: 67-72 truck member: Take the cab off and turn it upside down to get all the dirt out 67-72trkmmbr: No,I say you grab a tranny, slap in,and drive it like you stole it. sigsem senny2 membr: Go over all the systems to assure they are all in proper working order. SS Tim: Find the build sheet. Let's see the SPID. are rhe bumpers bolted with 6 or 12 pt nuts? Determine which plant it's from and document all the oddities so we can discuss them for another 12 pages. Mr.B: Just take small things off and spray paint them Cdowns: Stop asking stupid questions.Get a shop manual. It's warm here when you are cold. special-K: Back in '69 we woulda sat around and sung Koombaya. Hey,no harm meant. If you haven't been on here long enough to know my sense of humor, don't worry,I have

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Doubt there will be a build sheet in that truck! Batimore didn't even bother to put trim codes on the SPIDs. Actually this is earlier than his grandfather's truck.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Closing in on 300 posts, there are quite a few committed to this thread now...
I haven't shared anywhere else about the part hoard I bought yesterday. I found an ad with a guy selling his dads collection of Chevy parts, mostly 67-72 Chevy C-10 and 79 K5 stuff. His dad passed in 2005 in a car accident and was in the middle of a few builds. He had sold parts along the way but was done selling piece meal, he was ready to move everyhing, the good, bad, new, NOS, everything for one price. I showed up, gave him more than he asked and filled up my pickup twice. I know my Chevy parts but when it comes to ball joints and switches it came in handy that everything was labeled. You believe that you will remember what screw goes where and which hole the longer bolt went in, but you won't, not until you do the same repair about 7 times. Here's the hoard I picked up, basically because this thread is all talk and no pictures! All these boxes are labeled! Makes my life easier. SCHRUM, if you get through tomorrow with a new to you GMC in your driveway lets talk and I'll send you something shiny for your ride. Besides that I'm hoarding so don't even think this is a sale posting |

I really hope someone didn't play a cruel joke on the kid. He really deserves a shot at owning this truck.
