Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Plugged away at a few more issues that have been plaguing the truck.
First, very excessive oil consumption and plug fouling. Compression is good and there in no blow by. This one took awhile for me to figure out, but it looks like my beloved Edelbrock C3Bx intake is warped. Since this is my only driver I had to fix it quick so I took the cheesy way out and called Summit for the parts. Edelbrock Performer RPM and new gaskets. I didn't have the down time to spare to powdercoat the new intake so it's box stock bare. Wired for trailer lights and hitch ball installed. Need to be able to drag my little trailer to the swap meets ! Out with the old dirty, dingy instrument cluster... Restored extra cluster... Replaced some old bulbs... The finished product, so much nicer. I lubed the speedo cable while everything was aprt too. I picked up a grille at the swap last weekend I am toying with. It's a big truck grille. Since this picture I have already removed the "Chevrolet" from the top of the grille so it will fit a small truck like mine. I'm a bit on the fence about this as I really like 63 grilles like I have now. If I decide to not run it on my truck it will still be a cool conversation piece for the shop wall. I'm open to suggestions about the grilles though !

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Hope that solved your problems.
Gauges look great! Man, the grille would look cool on the wall with the lights wired up. I would have liked it with the chevrolet still on it though. I really like the front of your truck as is.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
The Chevrolet part is just held on by 4 rivets. If I decide to wall mount it I will definitely put the emblem back onto the grille.
I already have one extra grille on the wall now.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Cool. I have two GMC grilles hanging from the I-beam in my garage and a wiper cowl , emblems, and some extra dash bezels on the pegboard

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
what if you put the chevrolet between the two rails. Wonder what it would look like.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I like the new (unique) grille. Kind of wonder what the metal mesh from a BBG type grill would look recessed in the bottom opening about an inch behind the bowtie.
I like it though...

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
After driving it a couple hundred miles, the oil consumption seems to be fixed, fuel economy has doubled and it's still hitting on all 8 cylinders. Looks like I had a bad intake after all.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Glad it's working better for you. Better running and better fuel mileage is a good deal because I know you really use this thing. Congrats!

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
These pictures are kind of weak (iphone), but when returning from a call earlier I was looking at the truck in the parking lot of the station. Three days of rainy weather have aged the rack nicely. It looks like it belongs now. I will shoot some better pictures when I get home to the real camera.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Inquiring minds want to know, Where is the tire rack going now? That thing is way too nice to not to use.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Scoti, I do not like the current wheels so I am going to powdercoat a set of rallys and get a pair of bigger front tires for them too. Not sexy to most but for some reason I just disike the current wheels
a lot.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I have a big truck grill like that and I was playing around in my head about how to modify it. Maybe something with aluminum or ss rods. I wanted to keep the bowtie and the Chevrolet letters both...

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I for one am glad you are going with ralleys, I think they will look much better. What color are you going with?
Have you thought about ditching the baby moons and running just the chrome wheels?

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Rallies? That's dissapointing. Your current wheels look so much better than that.

I guess it is just me but I have never liked the chrome smoothies with baby moons, get rid of the moons or run some different caps and it looks 100% better IMO

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Joe, the issue with just pulling the caps is that the wheels are dual drilled for multiple bolt patterns so there are 5 unused lug holes under there.
I might pop the caps off today and get a good look at them to see the overall look though. For some reason, I just have not liked these wheels since I installed them. I completely missed on my "vision" of the final look.
