Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Thanks Diesel.

Did a bunch of little stuff today. Screwed the fuel line, fuel pump wiring and the brake lines to the frame. Drilled new holes for the trans cross member and bolted it in.

I went ahead and installed the damage column. Ordered the shift indicator parts, but just straitened the upper collar the best I could. Hopefully I just get a insurance check and don't have to return it. No matter what it needs to come out for new grommets and to mount the reverse light switch. Oh and paint the wheel.

Started working with the Lokar shift linkage. Not quite right yet.

This thing may just go for a spin around the block soon, straight pipes and ram air included

And I got caught sleeping on the job

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Finished the shift linkage, some said they have never been able to get down to 1st with the linkage. Mine works great. Threw the hood on and then started it up. Bled the power steering and brakes, which both work no problems. No test drive yet, but I did "test" it out a bit

Yep,

I had it out of the garage today. Still no test drive, I can't bring myself to take if for a spin with the air intake like that Oh well parts are ordered for that so it shouldn't be long.

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Thanks everyone.

Garage time has been hard to come by lately. I installed the brake switch that also will control converter lock up. Also hooked up my ebay air intake. Still working on running the MAF wires. Oh and got the insurance money from the column!

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Got the MAF wires ran across in the wire gutter on the core support and then finished bundling and securing the wires from the engine to the PCM. Then took her on her maiden voyage Two laps around the block, added some more coolant then off to the gas station for gas and some trans fluid. Plenty of power Gas fill leaks though

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Video(s) will be posted as soon as I get a chance and find a place to do it. This thing is LOUD when you get on it! Maybe I should work on exhaust

I pulled two codes out of it last night after my gas trip.
P0643-fuel level sensor......should have been turned off in the computer
P0650-Check engine light, need to buy a led for this.

Oh, the hydroboost brakes.....holy (fill in the blank) This thing will stop on a dime! I have never driven a truck that has this good of brakes.

I don't think I've lost that much tread yet It just spins so easy due to Old hard tires, open rear and very little weight back there. I need posi, but exhaust comes first.

Did a bit of wiring in the cab today-finally hooked up the wiring to the brake switch so the torque converter will lock. Had a little help...

Then took her on about a half hour cruise. No burning this time, just a nice cruise. The thing is just so smooth! I did get stuck in some traffic and I was worried the fan was too far away from the radiator, but she stayed under 200. More pics sometime this weekend.

Under 200 degrees is just below where they run stock so I think everything is working fine as you have it.

Yep, she runs 195 down the road and if it idles for a while will creep up to 200 never over I'm still going to put some LS1 E-fans on it when I find some.

I know, I'm slacking on pictures I guess I'm just enjoying it too much. I threw some plywood in the bed and used it to haul 600 pounds of scrap metal to the scrap yard today. I'm still amazed how nice it drives! On the way back from the scrap yard I stopped into a couple exhaust shops for quotes(350-450). I think I'm going to use these mufflers: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PYE-MVR33/

Any input?

I have never heard those mufflers on a vehicle but the design is like a glass pack so the sound may be similar. Kind of a shot in the dark unless you have heard them before.

For about the same money you can get the Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. They perform well in the dyno tests and sound great. I have put them on two vehicles of mine in the past and really liked them.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-21502HKR/

There are video clips on youtube of various vehicles with them for you to hear them for yourself.

My current one is a bit lacking in the floor department. I'm going to end up using parts from both to make one. Keep in mind, some of us live where things rust
