Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Im 18 and I wish my parents would let me park one truck here so I could fix one up but that aint happening. When I was 14 I took my 62 Chevy from scrap yard to dd. Keep up the good work and remember nothin is impossible!! I think this is a good project.
Are you still building it for a pulling truck? If so I recommend traction bars to keep the rear end from hoppin around

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

It may be built for a pulling truck. I got discouraged when I went in to look at my dads freinds bbc he pulls with. He has about 10,000 in it... There is no way I could compete with the people with this stuff. And I have priced traction bars and I can get a custom set made and installed for 100. I think its pretty good. I may do it soon. After the carb and intake and new exhuast for my ford. I got paid the other so I got a burnin in my pocket.

I will be taking it to a local engine shop tomorrow to find my wire problem. I have had like 20 people look at it and no one can find it. Hopefully I can get it back and tagged this week and drive the hell outa it.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Thanks. Its gonna be satin black for a while till I can paint it in Votech. Im thinking cherry red with some sorta black stripe. My Gf keeps trying to get me to go with a dark metallic blue. That would be good looking too.

I found a bed the other day that my brother inlaw has and said he would give me. Supposably "perfect" Im gonna paint the back part of the frame while the beds off though. I know that.

Thanks dusty I like it too. I cant wait to get a shiny intake and chrome carb sitting on top :P

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

I just sanded it with 320 grit sand paper for awhile till I got it where I wanted it. Then I painted the cap and back part with silver spray paint and the other with flat black. I like those colors togeather.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Gage is right on the link. I have looked at it before. Alot of good info. Thanks Gage.

As for the intake and carb swap I havent got a chance lately. I called my freind today and Ill be picking up the intake manifold tomorrow. 100$ for a weiland highrise manifold is good I think. Right? lol.

Well as I see it I have been neglecting my pictures so I have alot to post so bear with me.

Here are some before pictures my mom had took that I forgot about. It shows alot better what the truck used to look like.

Now on to some other things I have done. I redid the interior as I said before but didnt grab any pictures so here is a before(doors havent been done cause Im switch doors to electric ones)

Before:

After: I took everything out and painted the cab. Then I put a dash pad cap over my dash pad. I really recomend this it fits like a glove and very good quality. Next I put new vinyl on the floors so I could wash it. Then I put in a new seat with seat cover. Next for the inside is a nice big tach and a new shift boot.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Next thing I did was the exhaust. I went to oriellys and bought some hangers and clamps and went to work. (it was held on by some old wire and a part of chain) I also threw some old chrome tips on there for the hell of it.

FINALLY up to date. (kinda). Since combining is over I roped my dad into helping me take the truck to a local mechanic so he can chase my electrical problems.

Finally loaded.

About to leave.

A happy dad(haa...)and his son. Lol
