i bet you will have plenty of room for brake and clutch pedals, i dont remember if you centered the column on the gauges or used the original notch but i have always felt the gas pedal was too far to the right away from the other pedals.

Great choice of color. That will look nice next to the red.

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
I appreciate the input, fellas. I wanted to go a little different from standard colors and I'm digging it thus far.
Starting to play with the tunnel/ firewall a bit and getting the body parts back on to get the running boards fitted up. Goal is to have it off the chassis jig and rolling by the end of summer. More later - Dan

Boy I wish! No, just off the jig. Still have some body work, all of the wiring and plumbing, etc to do. Just ready to get the heavy fab finished.

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
Got the tires mounted, so got the majority of the body back on and lined up (close enough, anyway) to check clearance, get the running boards figured and generally just get an overall feel. After studying on it, the front wheels might look a little small (but they're 18x8's with 245's?) for my goal. That might just be it sitting up in the air, though, so I'll finish the running boards and get it off the jig to see. I think worse case would be fronts with a little less back space, or maybe a small spacer will work. To me the rears are perfect.
On a different note, I've been pondering taking a little of the "bulge" out of the hood. Anyone ever take a swing at that here? Nothing to do but get back at it - thanks for looking - Dan

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
Yeah nothing wrong with those front rims/tires from here. Trucks look weird up in the air on stands. Once you set it on the ground it will look very different. I bet your good with keeping with your current set up.

If that's at ride height, what will the ground clearance be?

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
Thanks for all the input, fellas. It's appreciated. I'll hurry up and get the running boards fitted and get it on the ground - I tend to agree that once it's out of the air it'll look right 😆
It's at ride height as it sits, running boards will be 5" off the ground. Thanks for looking - Dan

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
i think you're right ... it's not the size but the back spacing. probably looks perfect straight on, but the 3/4 angle presents the wheel/tire at a different perspective to the fender. not that it looks bad, but i think i see what you're seeing. totally fine as-is ... or an easy try-it with a spacer.
i fully support finding a spare hood and taking it to chop-town! worst case, scrap/sell it move on. |

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
I think 5" ride height should be OK; I've had lower and it was fine. I don't generally stomp it around speed bumps and drive ways anyway lol 😆.
I thought about tucking a larger front wheel, but didn't want to bag it so I stayed smaller. Tucking 22s is quite a feat! As for the hood, I've been looking but they're tough to find around east TN. I do have one to go look at, but I may just go for it and see what happens one weekend if I'm feeling lucky. It's worked before! Not talking about much, just a little off the "nose" if that makes sense. Thanks for looking - Dan

Re: 53 3100 - complete rebuild and upgrade . . . .
Long weekend, so I figured it's time to get the old rig off the chassis jig and see it sitting on the ground. Only took a few hours to get it apart, so hopefully we can mock it up and roll it outside for a better look soon. On a side note, it's amazing how small these chassis' looks sitting by itself. More later -
Thanks for looking - Dan

Burnt a little of the midnight oil and got the body mocked up, on the ground. Exactly what I was hoping for.
Thanks for looking - Dan
