Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

Thanks.....I think the rear could use some wider (stock look) steel wheels, with some radials wide-white all around.

I got these tires new for cheap (freebie, labor trade).

Not sure if they make a radial, with a white white from the rim out.

Nice truck ChiefRocka. I wish I had shop like yours.
My wife is buying cragar rims, center caps and lugnuts for the 62C10 for Christmas.

At some point I will be. Still all motor. The goal is 11.9x on the motor then hit it with the 2 stage.

Since your in San Jose, we should get together some time and check each others rides out. I work in Santa Clara but live just south of Gilroy.

He has a link for it in his reply. You can see it here.. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Only problem with the radiator is it dose not have a Tranny cooler. And seeing I will be running a 700R4 with a lock up converter I will need that tranny cooler along with an external cooler..

Musta missed that, thanks

Really all I need is a shroud I guess. My rad was previously rebuilt but with no shroud it gets a little hot sitting in traffic.

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

I do not like all in one units (IE trans cooler/radiator). I run a 4L80E with lock up verter. Trans temps on the freeway locked sit around mid 160's to low 170's while climbimng hills with the verter unlocked or at the race truck unlocked it get's to be closer to 200. The reason I don't like all in one units is my motor runs at 187-190 on the freeway and 200-210 around town. I would in theorey be heating my trans fluid up by having it go through the radiator.

You might ask why I don't use a cooler T-stat. I find with a cooler T-stat in this motor I get condensation build up in the oil (white slugy looking stuff on the breather's insides). The motor never gets warm enough to burn the moisture off with a 160* T-stat so I run the 180*. Plus it seems to get better mileage with the 180* t-stat.

you can try http://www.cokertire.com/ as well. I think they might have a wider selection than the other spot, prices about the same though.

Thank you for the kind words....It is people LIKE YOU with those words that keep myself (and others I've noticed) motivated to complete their projects.

My truck is not nearly 'complete' but if it wasn't for this forum, it wouldn't even been half as far.

This forum, and others I'm on (corvette), are big motivators...."You want to get back with new pics so people can give you props and the big "

Thanks again...have a good day !!!!

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

Hi John,
I've really like your '63 so much that I wanted a '63 lwb fleetside!
I found a clean stocker up in Sonora, Ca(where I work) cruising around town, and shortly after I purchased it!! It was already lowered, but done low budget.

It's the original chevy orange with a white roof with the black stock rims. A 1960 chrome apache grill with chrome '60 apache bumper. It's running the 230 inline 6 with Sm420 4 speed trans.

The front has no shocks, the front coils cut in half. The rear coils heated till they were fully collapsed. The only thing I hate about the ride is hitting a pot hole in the road.

Not sure how much it was lowered front stock height, but I do know that I can lean on the roof. lol I want to install bags on all 4 corners, update the brakes, but leave the rest alone for now.

Got alot of questions to ask you about Chief. I appologize if I highjacked the thread.
Many thanks,
David

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

(Begin Venting)

Well here is some FYI :

NEVER USE a 'China' made 'ghetto chromed' oil pan and/or timing cover !!!

Man the pan/cover has destorted so much that I have MAJOR oil leaks.

I just ordered a stock replacement MOROSO pan and a cast EDELBROCK timing cover, along with a one piece pan seal.

All the work I did to clean this thing up has gone down the tubes !! Crossmember is hella nasty....I guess that part of the 'Ratty" look

I am so FRICKIN PISSED OFF. It is so bad, my tailgate is covered in oil !!!

Anyway...venting complete...Could be worse I guess !!

Later...

John
