Actually I'm still looking for a suitable Chevy emblem but I also keep thinking about the old steering knob on my granddad's tractor that had a pic of a naked lady on red velvet... I think it was Marilyn Monroe, but I know I used to like to play on that tractor a lot.
LOL This has my vote

I'm still searching for the perfect emblem. Also working on some of the bed panels but it's all boring crap that doesn't photo well. And the heat is unbearable lately!

Too hot to paint anything but I will shoot primer since a bunch of it will get sanded off.

Well, the weather is finally cooling down a bit so I decided to get in the un-AC'd part of my shop and pull an engine for this truck. It's coming out of this jimmy.

Ran when parked (at least I parked it!). Going to tear it down, inspect it, and then do a budget build on it. Don't most engine projects start this way?

A pretty busy day for an old guy working by himself.

None of the work happens by itself! Good to see some progress, Roger

Just catching up on your build. For your horn button I would have someone scale to fit and print out in gold your av pic ragged Jim.

Cool build. I really like the choice of the metal bed floor. Looks like you are making steady progress. Maybe a rat fink horn button?

Thanks, the metal floor is still killing me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to bedliner it.

Ratfink has always rubbed me the wrong way for some reason, but thanks for the suggestion!

Me too, never was a huge fan. I painted this emblem on the bottom right corner of tailgate on a 51 chevy for a friend years ago. I think it is my favorite chevy emblem. Except maybe the shield on a 55 car.

I do like that one. I have been looking for an emblem on the web but so far haven't found one that works.

Tore into the engine a bit. Looks pretty clean but lots of carbon build-up around the crossover ports.

Re: Previous owner '68

So I decided I would do a leak-down test. I know, the results might be different if the engine was hot and fully oiled, but I did it anyway.

Test psi was 100psi and I did test both at top stroke and bottom of each cylinder.

Results were:

Cyl 1 top - 90%, bottom - 92%
Cyl 2 top - 84%, bottom - 88%
Cyl 3 top - 84%, bottom - 80%
Cyl 4 top - 90%, bottom - 90%
Cyl 5 top - 82%, bottom - 80%
Cyl 6 top - 86%, bottom - 84%
Cyl 7 top - 96%, bottom - 94%
Cyl 8 top - 90%, bottom - 90%

Now this was a long sitting, dry engine. Given the results I am going to replace the valve guide seals and hope for the best. If you think I'm screwing up let me know.
