Re: 68 pro touring, auto cross c10 (mid life crisis)

I'd be in on a billet style vintage steering wheel like that, is anyone doing any style of vintage wheel in billet, for our trucks?

Do you have a build thread on the other project? I don't remember seeing one.

That's a pain and seems like pretty poor business if he now has a mold and won't give you a break on it???

i know that drill! when i was a kid i would get a set of tires and wheels and they would be outdated before i got close to finishing it.

auto crosser doesn't need a radio; just the sound of wumpf, brake, screech, wumpf, brake, screech.

I've been thinking about that for my imaginary track truck build. How about a halo hoop pushed all the way to the roof with A-pillar bars following the windshield frame, thru the dash, and attaching to the floor and firewall, and the B-pillar bars following the curve of the back window wall to the floor. You could also attach a harness bar just lower than the top of the seat(s). In keeping with your OE look, you could run a bench seat, maybe scoop-out the foam a bit more for comfort and bum control, and run harnesses that could hide behind the bench when you are not racing and just use the lap belt portion, but then when you take to the track, flip 'em over, strap yourself in until you can barely breath, tighten some more, and let 'er rip. You could even put OE fabric over the halo hoop for a headliner. And you could hide a dash bar behind the dash too.

think i am going to pull the roof skin and do it. the rear hoop can be toatly hidden. i will follow the a piller from the floor behind the dash and follow the windshield post tight then kick back to the rear hoop between the roof skin. i think i will also box in the post with the cage. seats are almost bone. i had a set of buddy buckets done in red/red/blk houndstooth. look stock except they have the sides built up and the centers carved out. the seat frame is getting lowered 1.25" also and 3 holes per side with dimple die flares to look cool. someday?

Becareful of hiding your cage. If the techs want to check to see how thick the tubing is or if they want to inspect the welds. I hade to rework a bunch of tubes once because they could not see the welds or check the tubing. Just FYI

Hate to see you reworking your awesome ride.

Your seats sound awesome! I like the idea of a hidden cage, but you might try to have it certified before you cover it with sheet metal.
