Re: Daverods project 66

Started to put my heads on. Got one side done. Put the other side on and started to freak because it did'nt look right. It was only covering half a hole. Turned out it was just some kind plug thing. Did kind screw up and put the wrong bolts ( I think) in on the bottom ( the short ones). They did'nt have a circle on top? I found the right ones later. I just took the wrong ones out and replaced themn with the circle ones retightened everything a couple times. Hope it will be ok.

Re: Daverods project 66

You sure can do that kind of burn out, depending on what rear end gears your running. And screw in studs he's talking about what holds your rockers. I have a nasty little small block making about 400HP and can do that in every gear. Granted I'm running 4.10's and a T350

I need to order some push rods. I'm not sure what length? Why would you need longer than stock?

I love that video. I've watched it like ten times. His front fender almost drags on the pavement.

If anything you would think shorter push rods with a high lift cam.

Re: Daverods project 66

To determine the correct length pushrods, you need to check the contact pattern of the rocker arm on the tip of the valve stem. You want the tip of the rocker to be in the center of the valve stem through out the cycle of the valve opening and closing. You also need some adjustable pushrods for checking the lengths. This is usually done on performance engines when doing what is known as "Blueprinting" an engine. With the Performer cam, there shouldn't be a reason to not just run stock length pushrods IMO.

Thanks Capt. Always wondered what blueprinting was.

Re: Daverods project 66

theres a little tool for measuring the pushrodlength you slide it in the place of the rocker untill it rests on the valvestem then you measure with an adjustable rod and have the length the new rods need to be

Re: Daverods project 66

You welded them in right. Are those the ones from SD? The frames from 63-72 are made the same way with the frame sucking after the axle. Some people make their own and make it straight.
