Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Appreciate the pics, was more curious about the front when turning etc. I am narrowing my rear diff down to around 58" and running a 12" wide wheel out back with 4.5" bs.

Perfect....thanks buddy! Appreciate you going to all the trouble. Makes me not fear the 6" bs now. Almost wish it were more now, cause now wondering how close to the outside fender lip an 8.5" wide wheel with 6" bs will come. But this gives me a great idea of what to expect. Seriously appreciate it!

No problem at all man. Glad I could help. Yea I love it I was afraid of them sticking out or being real sucked up under fenders an looking goofy. But I was really impressed at how it looks. I'm ready for it to be laid on the frame tucking these wheels up in the fender wells. Can't wait to see yours done as well. Let me know if u need anything else man.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

....so, the way I have it roughly figured out...........my 6" bs 20x8.5" wheels should technically sit inboard of the outside edge of the fender just shy of 3/4" more than yours do. Will have to figure this out again tomorrow when I have more sleep and less beer....but if I have this somewhat correct, I should be golden.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Gauges from Classic Instruments arrived the other day. Could not ask for better guys to deal with so far. Had a million questions and some custom requests that they did without question. I looked at a crap load of gauges, and asked allot of questions to boot, and it all came down to Classic Instruments. Prices were similar with some, but the customer service was the clincher for me. Service doesn't get any better with these guys, hands down.

Decided against changing the chrome to black as I had originally chose to do, cause I thought the black might eventually look poor with use and cleaning. So chose to go with a brushed look. I will be keeping some other small brushed items to tie it all in when all said and done.

Had a couple small fitment issues, but ended up being the chevy pods being a tiny bit out of round. Nothing serious though. Going to try and have them all wired up in the next couple days once I decipher the gauge cluster wiring harness.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Been working on building the wiring harness for the gauges, and installing them, and so on and so on....time consuming but they are in and to stay in at this point for the last time. Nice to finally see some progress as alot of the stuff I've been doing lately hasn't shown much visual pleasure....lmao.

Anyways....on with the show.

GM weather pack connectors to add ease of dissasembly if needed along the way, and looks much cleaner when done. These shots are half way through so alot cleaner now by a long shot. Used all the factory wiring in the original harness that I could and wrapped all up in the main harness as well.

Speedo wiring through the original firewall grommet.

My pet....at home and awaiting my children as prey.

Still have to tie into the oil pressure switch/gallery as I found that the TBI engines have a fuel cut off tied into the stock one, and won't run without it so I'm told. So going to buy a T and a new factory pressure switch tomorrow as I had to cut the factory one out before it snapped off in the block. Progress....slow, but progress non the less.

There are 2 oil gallery plugs you can use. The one behind the manifold, and one above the oil filter. If your original switch is in the top one, just run the gauge sender above the oil filter.

Progress is looking great. The gauges are just right for the truck.

That looks cool....I did notice something though. Your speedo has a 'K' instead of 'M' PH.... Just messin'. I love the look of the interior all put together.

Thanks guys, ya...I think the interior is coming along now. Think I am sticking with the buckets front and rear....I just need to decide if I am going to dye them to match or not. Thinking I will and then look at recovering next winter.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Ok, well........got into doing the sender for the oil pressure gauge, and bit more involved than I had even comprehended at first. Never really thought about it till I got into it. Being that this is a TBI engine the original oil pressure sender is a 3 wire setup and has a fuel pump cut off switch built in as a back up of sorts to the fuel pump relay.

So, for anyone else that is trying this.....the three wires Orange: to ECM, Tan/white: to fuel pump, Tan: to oil pressure gauge. Cut the tan wire from factory harness, pull back through harness a few inches or so and install to new electric gauge bell sender and plug factory harness back into factory sender. You need to keep both senders, and as seen in pictures below this is how I managed to do it. Keep in mind that the factory sender is around a 3/8" diameter threads, and the rest is around 1/4"...so a regular T will not work and I could not track down what I needed locally, so....as my grandfather used to say "what would you do if you were stranded in the bush"...lmao. You make it work.

I should note that I didn't end up using the long extension on the side, it ended up being to long and hit the valve cover. I just used a male 45 degree fitting and all worked well. Use thread tape, and I removed the distributor as well to ease the job considerably. Be careful when removing the factory ones as the "stem" that is vertical from the block WILL bust off on you if you are not careful. Most are only made of brass so the side torque will snap them off. I honestly cut my sender off then removed the stem as I was sure it was going to snap with the torque required to remove the sender. Lesser evil in my mind..but you make the choice what you would rather do. Luckily I have a few parts trucks laying around and just robbed one from another truck.

Truck fired up with 60psi oil pressure and runs/starts great. Guess it worked....hahaha.

Ya.... Seems like it. But I've always figured that what makes you a good mechanic, or whatever is the fact that you can roll with the punches and/or fix your mistakes.
