Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Sweet ride Rat, time to pick your brain. Besides plain wick'd coolness, what are the performance gains to the dropmember install? Cornering, smoother ride, and how is the manual rack in low speed turns, parking, at speed? Thanks, and again amazing build, are you done, or is there another chapter?

Well for me the truck handles very well, little to no body roll with the sway bar option. The steering is tight no slop and real responsive. I am only running 205/75-15 skinny tires so turning is no work at all, but if i was running 22"x9" with wide tires i would consider power rack. With anything bagged you have to find the trucks sweet spot where it handles and rides the best, for me its around 4" from bottom frame (little less to soft-little more to firm). It stays very straight no wondering around the road either. If your just after performance with no adjustable stance, check with Nate at Porterbuilt for his new Touring Dropmember coming out soon with coil-overs

I still have plans to repaint the truck inside and out along with upholstery. Just having fun driving it for now.

Thanks for all the cool comments, Jesse

No thank you Jesse for posting your build, taking pictures and posting them takes time when your focused on the build. Yours has been one of the best and most realistic builds I've found.

That coil over drop member sounds perfect....I'll be watching Nat's site for it. Enjoy the drive, Mike

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Yes I've been driving it to work a lot and a few long country drives on the weekends. I found a few hidden rust spots under bondo that I made some patch panels for and fixed, still have some more body work to do. And I'm getting a set of the new frame stiffiners from Nate that I need to install.

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Man that sounds like a fun trip, I won't be ready for March but maybe the November goodguys show. I would probly drive down and stay the night in Santa Clarita then jump on the 10 into Pheonix the next morning. I need to head down south anyways to go on a job search... Thanks for the invite bro

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Well i got the new Porterbuilt "Truss" inner support system installed today. The system fits perfect and braces up the front solid.

I took off the steering rack and supported the engine with a jack. Then took out the old style stuff, there was some tight spots but all in all it went smooth maybe 3-4 hours total.

Thanks Nate...

Glad to hear your enjoying your truck Jesse. Drove mine to Austin for
The Lone Star Round Up. I have never driven the truck that far since l bought it in 1996. Ran pretty good, but I'm leaking gear oil from my differrential. Gotta re-seal it asap.

Post pics from The A&W Meet if you can.

Re: 1963 C10 SWB Big Window Build

Now starts the paint portion of my build....Got the interior pulled along with the glass, getting ready to paint the inside and jams. I am still not 100% on a color but it will come to me soon. I will have the seat upholstered while its out also

Messing around and did a fauxtina pattern panel

Nice work, how did you get the satin red, looks great. The Larry Watson panel is a great direction, very 60's and unique. Looks like your having fun with it.
