Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
thanks bowtieguy for info... and link to your build. i read that last year and had forgot about it. i did see a post about the jc whitney switching valve not working but that was for the tbi trucks i believe.
Bob's on top of it!! i think i'll have to get a harness for an 87 tbi for the duel tanks w/ the relays to splice into the new harness to make it work. my factory harness only has 3 wires total... 1 for each sending unit and 1 for the switching valve. and maybe a couple grounds... i also found a cool thread w/ lots of info from pcmcobra's install... http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...new-6-0-a.html

It's better than the updates on mine. Only thing I can show you is the amount of dust that is collecting on it.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Yeah just haven't been in the truck frame of mind last week or so. My daughter has been playing softball, and the last two weeks of Aug we played a game Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. Then had a tournament one weekend. Then we have dog training classes on Wed nights. So it has been a busy schedule. Now we have some breaks between games, but I doubt I get anything done to it until season is over.
That and the wife and I have been discussing selling the Mustang, and buying a Trailblazer. I'm trying my hardest to talk her into a Trailblazer SS, but those things just aren't that cheap. |

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
here's what i'm working on and trying to figure out now... HOW FAR SHOULD I GO?!?
and i'm running out of room... need to move this 350/350 out of here, extra compressor, engine stand, and maybe even the chassis so i can really get busy on this thing.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Are you going to put the factory a/c stuff back on the firewall, or do a vintage air system?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
If you just clean it up, and pay attention to the detail like you did on the frame your end result will be awesome. Don't doubt yourself now. Just look at your frame, and say "I can do this!"

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Looking good Dennis. Just keep the firewall simple. Remove the factory goo, hide some wiring, smooth the factory dimples and seam. You can do it!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Jeramy, thanks for the support. thats the plan nice and simple...
i have been stripping down the cab and planning my attack. heres some pics. the 1st one is of the little bit of rust i need to fix on the passenger side floor board. i put a light under the cab so it should show. the plan is to wire wheel it to see how thin the metal is and maybe get lucky and throw a few spot welds down and grind smooth. if not i'll have to find some sheet metal and make a couple small patches. few of inside the cab all the stuff piled up. need to take it all and put it in the bed on the side of the house.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
fire wall almost completely stripped.
this is the rats nest of wires i pulled out. i'm going to try the painless kit when the time comes to do the wiring. i have heard good and bad things about it but it cant be as bad as the mess i have now! next is take the gas and brake pedals out, headliner, rubber seals, and glass. then its time to go to town on the rust spots and firewall patching. after thats all done i'm going to por15 the underside of cab and floor boards, prime and paint the fire wall, and underside of cab metallic red jewel (and maybe jam it) and i can sit the cab back on the frame! how does that sound??
