You know what, this truck is nice! Maybe too nice...yeah...I think you will never want to drive it. I have a plan, just trade me for a "driver"! How 'bout it?

Re: 24 years later....here we go

I've been thinking about that. That is being scared to drive it after all the hard work. I think I'll be fine driving it but definately wont leave it parked unattended. Too easy to swipe these old trucks...

Nice wheel choice! I really want to see those mounted! Those are the wheels I'm looking at getting, but in chrome. Polished won't do so well parked outside on a daily all the time. What's with the long wait? Are they made when ordered, or just run out? May seems like a long time to wait for a couple of wheels.

Re: 24 years later....here we go

I ordered them last friday. They said they would ship the fronts out sometime this week. All they told me was that the 20X10's were coming sometime in mid to late April so I figure on May. Really thats only 4-6 weeks. Im not in a huge hurry but the wheels are paid for. Im sure they'll send em when they come in....

There are ways to make it very difficult to steal these trucks from an electrical standpoint, but almost nothing can stop them from dragging it onto a flatbed.
If you don't put alot of high value parts on one of these trucks you don't really have anything to worry about.
There are cars and trucks that are in much higher demand, there really isn't a demand for these old trucks or their stock parts on the black market mainly because their parts aren't valuable.
Do they get stolen, of course they do but not as often as you might think.
I wouldn't spend alot of time thinking about it, an proper electrical security measure will be more than enough to stop most criminals.

Hope I am not hijacking the thread, but could you share some of those measures?

Just make sure you have the proper insurance coverage. If it does get stolen, that's a bad time to learn you didn't have enough on it.

Redundancy is the key, ignition relay, starter, coil packs/distributer, coil, fuel pump, etc if you kill everything simultaniously on independant circuits then they have to run a tripple or even quadruple bypass to get the truck to run, that takes too long, also you can reinforce areas that are susceptable and use uncommon fastener types, the rule of thumb is if it's so complicated that you have to be an electrical engineer to defeat it then they will move on to an easier target.

Just doing my part for the economy!

I bought the Toyo's for Tom. I really like the tread pattern on them.

Re: 24 years later....here we go

My brother and I got the windshield in today. My trim was beat up pretty bad so I pulled a near perfect set out of a truck at the junkyard. I have another nice front and back set out of a 72super too. Used that trim and a precision gasket. It went right in, once that secondary lip comes inside the pinch weld it sets in there real nice...

Re: 24 years later....here we go

Yes new glass, I think it was a "key parts". It came from southern Kentucky classics if you want to check with them. I got the bed from them and they were offering a shipping incentive so I got the glass from them too. Saved a good bit on shipping that way at the time. I think the key is using stock trim and a precision gasket. Watch the video on youtube that precision posted about these windshields. It is very useful...

Re: 24 years later....here we go

For those that would like to see the YouTube video by precision I was gonna post it but it wouldn't let me. Search "67-72 Chevy truck windshield". It's the one by "precision194". Most of you have probably seen it already....

I had the precision gaskets as well. I bought a light smoked windshield and had problems getting it in. I had a 30 year glass guy helping me. We finally compared the new windshield to the one I took out; the new one was 3/16” taller than the old. The glass guy used a high speed sander to bring the new windshield to the proper size.. It went in prefect then..

Nice job on you glass install.. The truck is incredible..

No doubt.. And they are very expensive. I bought a lot of the bigger stuff last summer when I had a little cash.. So I think I have almost everything I need to finish. All I basically lack is the bed. I know Kyle is getting tired of me asking when (I try to limit it to once a week )… but dang it is just so hard to wait.. I know when my time comes he will get on it and it will look as great as the rest of the work he has done on the truck.

I hope someday to see yours in person.. have a great day..

Unless you weigh less than 140 lbs, you're eating too much. Less money spent on groceries is money that can go in the build.

Congrats on getting the glass in. That's something I turn over to the pros. Now I can call you!
