Thanks for that. She's having a good day. I made her a card, helped our daughters make cards, cleaned the house, did dishes, and made her omelets and blueberry waffles for breakfast.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

I bought the bit to drill out the hole for the airbag fitting and started mocking everything up. However, since I might be getting a different rear, I want to get the rear, clean it up, install everything, and then mock it up that way to be 100% certain the holes for the airbags are in the right spot.

Jason got one side of the old inner and outer rockers out and has the new ones clamped into place. Looks really good and all lines up nicely. I will take pics in the morning.

Got my polished stainless battery drop-down box in from CPP but that will be a while before I install that. Going to work on getting the front end together, getting a new rear or freshening mine up, and I am going to paint the frame another coat. Noticed that the tranny crossmember I painted with three coats is darker than the rest of the frame. So I will be adding one more coat to the entire frame.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Working on getting the pictures uploaded...it's going to take longer on my old PC vs. my laptop which I just turned in Friday to my now previous employer....along with my GPS, Blackberry, and 2008 Ford explorer (w/ no payments, free gas, insurance, and no maintenance fees).....

Got the patch panels prepped for welding for the cab and sprayed the underside of the cab with rust converter to stop any future spread. Hoping Jason gets time this week to get it all welded up. I will be ordering the front end components and installing those as soon as they arrive. And now I'm back looking for a good 5 lug posi rear...

Hope to have the pictures tonight but might be in the morning...not a lot to see though...

My company is out of business so I was laid off with about 40-50 others this Tuesday afternoon. I already have three job offers out there and some other options as well. The project is moving forward. I plan on working a lot during the week next week between interviews. I want to get as much done as possible so if I am forced to sell it I can get it painted and get it's true value out of the truck. It is going to be a show truck when completed...but just a pile of parts right now...

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Here are the pictures from the other day...didn't take much because I didn't do much
Cleaned up the edges to be welded on all the patch panels and on the cab itself where the panels will be welded to the cab. Sprayed rust converter anywhere I'm not welding. Plan on doing another coat or two to be safe...then priming with a rust stop primer and then undercoating.

Here are the inner and outer rocker mocked up...

The trailing arms w/ bags held up with a strap so the frame is still mobile Don't mind the dirty lens...

And the huge pile of dirt and rust that came out of my front crossmember when I cleaned it out this afternoon after Church

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

It doesn't look that impressive on here, but that pile of dirt is around 5" tall....don't know how there was that much in it unless the truck was drug through the mud at some point. The good news is the crossmember cleaned up very nicely both inside and out. Plan to get the upper bag plates drilled and installed tomorrow, the crossmember primed and painted, and then finish working on the A-arms.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

You know, you might be able to melt all that ore down in that pile of dirt and make a new fender for that truck, or create a new rocker panel for it, lol. Looking good i must say.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Got the crossmember cleaned up some more. Once I got it into the sunlight I saw some areas I missed....
Mocked up the upper air bag brackets and marked for them. Only had a few minutes to work so I will drill them today or tomorrow...

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Going to drill all the holes for the bag plates, then prep, prime and paint the bag plates and the crossmember. Then I'll get that installed on the frame.

Jason got the passenger side rockers tacked on and parts of it welded. He was just getting back to work on them when I had to leave to go to visit in-laws so I'll get some more progress pictures tonight or tomorrow. As soon as he's finished I can get the underside of the cab prepped and painted!

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

I had a really good interview today and worked up a plan that i put into a powerpoint to implement for the company. Should find out about that in a day or two. Stopped by tonight to drop off some parts/supplies and took some pictures of his progress.

Going to have to patch a little of the floor of the cab due to weak metal/blow through....but all in all it's looking very good.

I'm going to grind everything down smooth tomorrow and work on the front crossmember. Also going to start the engine cleanup. Keep having family activities getting in the way of working on the truck

Jason did it quickly while I wasn't there and it looks good and the rocker lines up nicely with the cab corners and the groove in the cab and around the door weatherstrip groove. I asked him and he didn't test fit the door, so we might have some issues but I will check it out as soon as I get the cab tipped up and on the frame.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Well, I was planning on a longer day today but had other things come up. I got about two and a half hours in this afternoon. However, I picked up a good set of control arms that just need a little more attention and they will be good to go. Got three of the four stripped down clean and will do the last one tomorrow.

Also spent a few minutes cleaning up the inside of the crossmember. Got it looking good. Drilled the holes for the upper bag brackets in it and then wiped it down to prep for paint. Wiped down the control arms and bag brackets also so I'll shoot those first thing tomorrow when I go over to the garage.

Started grinding on the cab where the rockers and cab mounts were installed to clean those up. Stopped to ask Jason how far he wanted me to take them until final body work. Just did part of one side..will tackle the rest of that later. Hope he's going to get the last cab mount in tonight. Then I'll be able to prep, prime, and undercoat the cab.

Also started grinding on the block. Got most of the old paint off and started grinding all of the slag off of it. Got some parts nice and smooth. Will work on that more tomorrow as well. Left the camera in the garage so no pictures until tomorrow
