Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

I wasn't expecting to do much this evening with the 78, however, I was surprised to find a package from Michigan Motorsports containing coil brackets and the associated wiring harness - so, I had something to do tonight. I also picked up a pulley for the 1998-2002 Camaro LS1 power steering pump earlier today that I was going to install later this week. I ended up pressing on the power steering pulley then put together the coil relocation brackets and checked out the wiring harness. Fun fun!!! Mike

One of the things I really like about the LS motors is the super short spark plug wires. Mounting the coils on top of the valve covers is not aesthetically pleasing to some but I like how neat and clean and out of the way the wiring harness is with them on the valve covers.

No way Sir! I'd be happy to have it pulled and painted by the end of the week. Once the weather breaks and we get back into the 20s, I'll have to work on the Household Commanders master bath - not gonna cut backer cement board inside the the house or her garage, too dusty!!

Oh believe me everyone will complain about it too. I hear it all the time, "why'd you paint that motor ford blue?" I get various responses when I tell them it's GM blue and was factory for a 78. Most tell me I'm wrong an GM never painted anything blue just orange an black.....

Had a 79 C20 on the farm with a blue 350. It was original.
The color looked just like the 302 in my 1980 Ford LTD.

Awesome work and nice pieces! I painted the 5.3 in my 71 Camaro ford blue. (It actually used to be trophy blue but duplicolor has changed the name)

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

If any of you missed it on page 11, I'm more or less following what "dayj1" http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=668385 in his 4.8L build thread. Yesterday, I worked first on the you Dirty Dingo LS trans x-member. I didn't like the how the engine was sitting in the frame so I did some modifying of the x-member. I also drilled a hole for the MAP sensor in the throttle body. I think I have all my sensors now worked out. next is adapting the wiring harness to fit the new configuration. Thanks Mike

Pictures:
1. Original location of trans x-member plate.
2. Trans x-member ready for welding.
3. Test fitting the trans...good to go.
4. Drilled hole for MAP sensor.
5. MAP installed.

Mongo, I did see that! I don’t know which way to go, I might just pull it through the valve cover with a small cone filter or in the top of the throttle body.

I got my parts from Delmo’s Speed shop.

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

Jonathon told me that the pass side is metered air and has to go thru the throttle.. without it being metered the drivers side going to the back of the intake will suck major air into the intake ,causing a lean condition..if I remember correctly

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

Tonight I spent some time taking the wiring loom off the harness and reorganizing the wires for this set-up. The truck harness has a big loop in it on top of the truck intake, so, by taking the loom off, I was able to back out wires and move them around so that it's better organized.

Mango, you're correct on the PCV.

Thanks Mike

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

Yesterday I received a set of 73-87 LS Engine Mounts from Hedman Performance Group. I swapped out the Dirty Dingo's last night with the Hedman's to see how they'd work with this application. I like the Dirty Dingo's and will use them on another LS application, but for this one, I need to go a little bit forward and up in order to gain some space for hiding the coils behind the engine. It looks great. Downside, I'll have to have my driveshaft lengthened about an inch. I will pull the engine this weekend and get it cleaned up before I paint it. This will also give me a chance clean the frame as well. If I wanted to move forward another half inch, I could switch around the mounts. Thanks Mike
