Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
My 67 chevy c10 longbed says on the info that it use to have an inline 292 but when I bought it there was no engine. It had the original OD 3 on tree though. Now i have a 350/th350 but I am strongly considering about trading my rebuilt sbc350 for a 292. I can care less about power just want a good ol workin reliable 292. Plus gas prices suck and I heard these are nicer on gasoline. But i love the old sixes. You just don't see people running them like the old days.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Be aware - 292s are not that great on gas. Get a 250 and an OD trans if mileage is important to you.

I do not want to get out of topic here for such a cool post. But something I will have to think about. All in all I just love the straight Sixes. Thanks for the heads up Shaky.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Here is the 292 in my 67 c50. The original air cleaner was missing so I fabbed up an adapter for the carb and stuck the cone filter on it. Somehow the irony of it amuses me every time I look under the hood. Yes I know I need to filter the vent on the valve cover. This truck only gets started about once a month and never runs for more than 15 minutes. Baby steps...

Your engine looks great. I'm in the middle of a similar built on a six. Where did you get the fuel line (pump to carb) from, and where is the distributor advance hard line from? What paint did you use on the exhaust manifold? What transmission are you using? Is there a Rochester Monojet on it? Pic of my engine just painted last weekend. thanks Mark |

I purchased all my hard lines from Inline Tube. The paint is a Por 15 product. Instructions for prep is that the manifold needs to be sand blasted first / No experience with it but will see how it holds up. I kept the Saginaw 3 speed. |

Actually, it's still a work in progress. I need to re-do the script a little better.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Truthfully, I don't know what motors or years they came on. I found this one in a junkyard somewhere. And congratulations on having post number 292 in this thread!

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
My 68 with the original 292 has a script valve cover. And about two weeks ago I picked up a chrome script valve cover from the junk yard.

I know my original engine had a plain valve cover, and the only one who messed with it since 1973 was me. My truck was a Fremont build in late '68. In this pic, I painted the valve cover cast iron grey to get the look of a cast aluminum Clifford or Offy cover [which I can't afford, even if I did find one.]

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Here's my 230. It's amazing to me how tough this little engine is - I've had the truck about two years now and basically everything I've touched on the engine in that time has been broken, but the thing has run the whole time.
Of course, whenever I fix something it runs a whole lot better, and each time I think to myself, "How in the world was this thing running without that working?"

Mine looks like this
...but imagine PS, PB, and 3 speed OD. I hope I have the chance to do this soon! Oh ya, the Chevrolet valve cover (the cherry on top). I pulled the valve cover off of a 64 with a 292 |
