we both need to start getting out trucks running! a guy by the name of gaswgon he grounded the steering gear box and put a small dent in the frame and it worked you could use some washers though

Ah dang! Well if you didnt go through all that work on the frame id say notch it or wack it with a hammer a bit to make it sit flush but that sucks..

Hey Mike....either you can use 1/4" spacers, heat it up and hit it with a BFH or I bought a spacer that is specific to this application I'd sell ya for what I have in it....$55 shipped

Small update: Got my new rotors installed and started assembling the steering components. Found out Rock Auto sent me the wrong tie rods (twice!) dang it. Also found out my 67 frame is different from the 69 where the steering box mounts. So I will need to make some spacers.
Which tie rod are they sending incorrectly?
Let me guess,... the inners are threaded the opposite direction?

Your spindles are the Belltech #3120 correct?
This is a 71-72 spindle.
(different ball joint, different outer tie rod, and outer tie rod thread direction)

What are you using for a centerlink and inner tie rods?
67-70 or 71-72?

Hey Keith,
I am using a full 71-72 front suspension. The PO had switched the 69 front and rear for the 5 lugs. I ordered everything from Rock Auto for a 72. Did I miss something? thanks,

No.
After the 1970 model year, GM switched the direction of their tie rod threads.
67-70 outers were LH thread.
71-72 outers were RH thread.

I thought maybe your tie rods weren't threading together.

I think they sent me 4X4 inners? Not sure, they screw together but the tapered end is too big. I will just pick up some locally. .

Nice work Mike. I got the 5.3/4.8 switch-a-roo as well. I was cleaning the engine and seen 4.8 stamped into a tab coming off the head gasket. Flipped the block over, pulled the pan, and read the crankshaft casting number... At first I was pretty let down but I've heard great things about the 4.8 from everyone who has one.

Like the pics of your work, looking forward to more.

Yep, I was a little disappointed at first but, the 4.8 should work out great for a daily driver.

Nothing wrong with a 4.8. If a 4.8 can move a 2010 crew cab 4x4, I don't think we'll have any problems

Sure, I know a few guys that never knew they had a 4.8 until I pointed how to tell the difference.
I am still looking for a super deal on a late model drivetrain but the plan is to go forward with what I have.

I hit it pretty hard tonight after I wrapped up changing my prop shaft and prop......again on my outboard. (Dang stumps!)

I made some spacers for the steering box, then finished assembling the front suspension. All new parts I also got my new 5" drop springs in today.
I decided that I am going to start with a 3X5 drop. This truck is going to be driven a lot so I want it driveable. It may be too low for me at that we'll see this is the first lowered one for me.

I then started on the rear shock crossmember I picked up in the classified section.(no pics yet) I got all the old rivets ground down and puched out, tomorrow I will weld up all the unessary holes from an air bag conversion.
On to the pictures, sorry for poor cell phone pics:

.125" thick stainless spacers

Installed:

Suspension complete- still need to get some swaybar bushings. forgot about that.





New 5" drop springs
