Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Skymangs
I've be watching your build from the beginning, I think is great you and your son are building this together some day he will appreciate it. I know from teaching for 9 yrs the students I don't have problems with are the ones that Dad is a big part of their life. I spent 2 weeks in the big town of Warrensburg in 2005 at (then) CMSU for part of my new teaching certification. May be some day I'll get to see your truck in person. Keep up the good work.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Thanks 99 and Rootbeer, I'm hoping that he will aprechiate it more now that he has his own blood, sweat, and tears invested. I look forward to meeting as many of the folks on this board as I can in the future. Looks like we're gonna try to make it to Brad's BBQ down in Springfield mid month. Will get to meet a few of you there I hope.
Thanks

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
So we installed the seat on Friday, only to find that it was pretty "wobbly" (as my son put it). After scratching my head for a sec, I realized that the entire floor was flexing under the seat (front to rear). That certainly won't do. Here's the fix I came up with. Welded 1/8th in plate from the rear "bulkhead" forward to span the factory recess in the floor pan. Then trussed it with 1/8th inch plate to fill the recess, kicking the legs out at about a 20 deg angle. We re-mounted the seat this afternoon, and I'm happy to report no flexing of the floor anymore! Peeling up that Peel and Seal really did suck though!

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Working on AC hoses still. I am cutting and crimping all my own ends. It's a very painstaking process! Waiting on one fitting to arrive on Monday, then all the hoses should be complete. Here's the Condenser and dryer installed though. I'll post pics of the hose work when it's complete Monday afternoon.
We have an appointment for an alignment on Tuesday! Ready to drive once the snow clears up a bit from the roads! FINALLY!

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
So I was out driving the truck today, when it suddenly started knocking. Sounds like the number 4 Rod bearing. Not good.
Since we are still planning on taking it to Springfield next Saturday, I guess it's gonna be a long weekend for us. Motor is coming out tomorrow night. This really sucks!

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Hey man, everything happens for a reason. The first engine I had in my truck was worn and long story short sent a main through my oil pan, before I had even driven it. Had to yank it out in dead of winter and in the long run am glad that happened. It made me build my own and put it in. Now when/if I change to an even better engine, I have it set up so all I do is take the front clip off, all my wires are spliced to do so as well. You'll get there, good luck.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
From what I've read on H.A.M.B. it is pretty damned close to the same stuff. Those guys rave over it

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Mknittle, I think I posted on that thread. That was what prompted me to head over to the H.A.M.B. to see what those guys were saying. I did the entire floor and firewall for $50 bucks.
Update... Engine came out tonight, put her on the stand and broke down the bottom end. #6 rod bearing was spun. Wore a pretty good groove in the crank. Luckily my local Orielly's had a crank kit with matched bearings in the store for $100 (it even came with King bearings). Looks like we caught it before it caused any other damage. Should have it back together and on the road by the end of the weekend.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
50 bucks for the matting sounds great, I'll have to look into that. Good news about the engine.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
thanks guys. Engine is back together. Gonna grab some oil and a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauge this evening. Prime the oil pump, and get this thing back in the truck!

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
Happy to report 65psi cold idle... 50psi warm idle. Bottom end sounds GREAT now! Tomorrow morning we'll throw the grill and hood back on and log some miles with her!
P.S. Calvis... Love the Binder! I don't know if you noticed, I'm a Tractor nut as well!

Glad to hear the engine repair went well.
Yeah, I love my Binder. It's more tractor than it is truck, really.

Re: Project "Sweet 16"
thanks all. Put about 40 miles on her. Only issue is that the fuel gauge doesn't seem to be reading. I should have the cluster back in this evening, then I'll take it to work tomorrow (50 mile round trip).
