Re: project (sweet pea)
Thanks Guys........Hopefully the DEATH threats Mike (backyard88) has been sending me will stop now...........................lol
Edit.........And yeah the back of the cabs not painted.....I didnt want a hard line at the jams so i always do it like this.....It makes for more sanding but the(ghosting) of the hard lines is not there.......And as far as the roof......Its getting Two Toned so there was no need.......... Thanks Mike .........I think it will.......Although i am not sure where i will break the line at yet???? i may run it in the cowl and to the hood..maybe do a small 1/8 inch black stripe to break it up more...???????????...Or just do the roof.....Its a BRIGHT BRIGHT color........ANd will all the pearl in it......One color may be to much.......We will see............I am trying to talk one of the painters at work to Shoot it.He is by far the best painter i have ever seen.....And this is not my first time around the block....Mainly ......As in i know i will be way to picky with my own .........

Re: project (sweet pea)
Hey Tony,
That looks great. I was wondering what products you used...from filler all the way to clear. I'm a novice but want to try my hand at painting. I'm building a 69 shortbed fleet and will put some pic into a thread when i get a chance. Also, did you spray that in your garage? Dan |

Re: project (sweet pea)
There is a wide variety of things i use...And i am more than happy to help you with anything you need asked,..And not to sound cocky......But its more of the applicator than the product......Let me know exactly what you are wanting to know....

Re: project (sweet pea)
I can respect that, your work looks fantastic. I have worked with filler before using that old bondo brand. I was going to try that Rage Gold ( i think it's called that ) cause i hear it's good. By paint product I mean is it dupont, ppg?? What i lack in knowledge I make up for in confidence

AS far as paint on sweet pea......The firewall is Solvent based( urethane ) and the edging and interior is Water Born..All Speice.....OR germen Dupont. Although i would not recommend (water born) for your FIRST paint job...It is sprayed completely different from (solvent) urethanes. And the slightest but of dirt or oil or anything will ruin the whole job......Just a heads up.......OUR shop switched to (water born) ( its a GREEN paint) as in safe for the enviroment ...The colors are much more brighter and more Bright ....So i wanted the Jams and Interior to match as in those areas dont see as much sun to show the true color....I hope that makes since......(basically sometimes the jams on cars i have seen look darker even though its the same color and was shot at the same time....I am trying to avoid this .......So i went this route...... I can get a list of products i have used on Sweat Pea....if you want.... |

Re: project (sweet pea)
Products i like and use...
Fillers (aka Mudd) or (Bondo)...Not a lot on sweat pea....But i like 3m Products. Rage. And Dynatron.....Glazes.....I light 3m Polyester Glazes Primers Etch............(Speice)< in a Rattle Can. Epoxy...........I like PPG.. Filler Primer.(Polyester) i like R/M Cover/Block Primer.....Speice Weld through Primer........Wurth..(Zinc) Sealers.....Speice Paint..... Paint is Paint.....(as far as urethanes go ) Single stage....Been a long time .....But again Paints Paint.....Either you can spray or you can't....... Base.....I like Speice.<>..Dupont = same.....PPG and R/M.....(diamont) (basf) same Clears....... I LOVE PPGs....2000 clear was super easy to wet sand and buff ....And was hard as hell with a few days of curing..... Speice....3350 i think is the number? ...its a great clear....And its what i have used on Sweet Pea......And will continue to do so.....It lays down so easy....And its a pleasure to spray........ Hope this helps........There are lots of great products out there.....These are just what i use and have had good luck with...... |

Re: project (sweet pea)
You are correct about PPGs' 2000/2 clear , it is my favorite clear to spray. Keep up the good work.

Re: project (sweet pea)
small progress is better than none.....Have been a little slow this week at work....(it being a four day week and all) Anyways had some extra time to get a few small pieces out of the way......First one was the gauge panel.....This lil dude took a lot of time to get right...Right in my book any ways....Smoothing the textured part was a pain....Lots of hand sanding with 320 and 3 heavy coats of primer....I also got rid of the little raised area around each opening....Also got my ignition / 12 volt input/juice switch ....Painted and my dome light Bezel.......Anyways here are a few pics along with the gauges i will be running.....I still need to get a Trans Temp. And Water Temp..But they only had electric gauges and i am running mechanical.....Hopefully they will have some more soon....Or i will just order some from Jegs......
