Well, you'll at least have a very pretty truck that doesn't go, opposed to an ugly truck that does run... perhaps we'll end up with clean & running trucks at the same time?

Nice work Scott and congrats on your first start up and drive time! It looks likw some one has a pretty sweet Mega Cab CR sitting there too! How much of the dodge harness did you end up keeping to get the 47RE to shift correctly? I might be doing some swaps using these transmissions soon.

Thanks Ryan. That CR is my buddy Paul's, he's been helping me with the truck, and in turn, I get to help him with his '69 Bronco.

So, for the Tranny, I didn't keep any of the electrical harness. That's mainly because I'm running the 47RH, not the 47RE. But, I do have a series of challenges to figure out with regard to the lock-up and overdrive which aren't done yet.

In talking about my situation with someone else, he'd pointed me to PCS thinking that they may have something to help. I've looked over their site, and two things come to mind. First is that they're really focused on Chevy/Ford transmissions and that they're not a cheap solution.

I've still got to sort out some of the little issues... my power steering fluid hasn't gotten all the air out yet, and keeps foaming over the fill cap. The transmission fill line is loose and fluid is squirting out of there. And I need to get the fill line done for the fuel tank.

I don't know why I keep thinking you are using a 47RE. Here's the way to go:

A PCS is overkill for a 47RH. If you use a controller, you're defeating the purpose of using a RH. That or use 2 toggle switches.

Yep, that's currently on my list. There's a couple of things that I need to get in order first, like finishing up the fuel tank fill neck, buttoning up the intake lines, etc.

I've reached the just 'cause it's running doesn't mean you're done point.

you silly arizona folks. my mom is always whining about it being cold. last time i was down to visit i stopped by Mosesburb's to BS. this was in January of last year or maybe the year before, dont really recall. anyhow, i was in a t-shirt and long sleeved carhart shirt. Mr. burb was wearing a full set of insulated bibs and parka standing next to a space heater..

Speaking of Mr. Burb, I happened to see his beast go rambling through the intersection in front of me this weekend. Not quite enough time to take a picture, but it was a random sighting of a board member...

I had a random sighting here in durango a year or so ago. talk about a surprise. i was sitting in my favorite coffee hut on main shooting the poo with some friends. they all thought i was loosing what was left of my mind when i bolted out the door to watch it go by, mouth agape. haha

Well, I did manage to get a little bit of time on the truck this last weekend. Still working on finalizing the fuel tank. In the pictures, the bed is off the truck, but I hope to get it all back together this coming weekend.

When it came to mounting, I had to space this between two of the bed rails, the one right behind the rear wheel wells and the one further back. There's not a lot of room to work with, but I think I've got everything to clear now.

I'm getting ready to install a gas door out of an S10 in the exact same location on my K20, someone just posted and said i cant do the welding until its 70 degrees, if anybody has advice on this i'd appreciate it.

Scott, it looks like a nice fit! Swamprat, IDK why they said that unless it's got to do with the warpage. Maybe they think it'll warp more because the steel is that much colder? I've welded on sheet metal in my shop with no heater in the winter and not had any ill effects.

So, I basically used a 4.5" hole saw on the outside of the bed, ran a 4.125 on the inside of the bed and the floor. The middle line came off of the screws on the side marker and I tried to get the middle between the braces.

The inside bed hole was easy since I used the outside cut to start the pilot hole for the inside. For the bed, I just measured it so it out to be roughly 45 degrees (but also tried to keep it inside the wheel well.)

I'll take some thicker paper to create a template for the cover, and probably just create a lip, rivet it in place, and put the bed liner on it when all's said and done.

Thank you for that! I know i can put a space heater under the truck to help with moisture in the air ect.. Makes me feel better about starting the mod.

I have been shooting for the exact same location, C/L off the holes of the marker and right between the support rails on the floor, but i will take another look as to the location of the inlet on my Boyd's tank before i settle front and aft.

I was however thinking that if i made the upper cut straight across then I could put a lip flange on the top of the cover and have it go under the bed side, then have the sides and bottom flanges of the cover be on the surface. That said i'll see how yours turns out before i get that far, you probably have an idea up your sleeve that will make that rounded cover look way better! then i may steal your idea if ya don't mind.

Well, the update is late, but I finally got the bed situated back on the truck.


So, I know that a lot of people have taken the time to create fuel doors, in bed filling locations, hidden behind the side marker. I chose not to do that, only because this is a working truck for me, not a show truck, and I didn't think that I needed to take the extra step to put in something that I really didn't need.


I have a template made for me to create the inner "shield" or cover that will go over this. I plan on making it so it will mount from the inside of the bed, so if required, I can get in and access the hoses in the event that I'll ever need to take the bed off in the future. (I really don't want to, but you never really know.) I also have an "extra" section that I put over the top of the fill hose to ensure that any rubbing wouldn't cut the line.




I did have to clearance on of the cross sills to clear the top the fuel pick-up and the hoses. It only needed to be about an inch high and about 15 inches across. I also took the time to wrap the fuel & return lines in an old radiator hose just to ensure that any rubbing would not result in a cut fuel line.


The lines came out between the cross sills without any clearance issues.

Finally, the other thing that we did was to fill the old "Beer Goes Here" hole that my son was nice enough to tag. It looks like this is finally a permanent change.


So far, the only thing that I've got an issue with is that I lost the ability to get to two of the mounting bolts. When I was looking at the final mounting location, I realized that this was going to be an issue. So, at the end of the day, it looks good, but only 6 of the 8 bolts holding the bed down.

I've still got a couple of things to tackle.
1) The transmission dipstick has been leaking. Even though we've gotten in and retightened it a couple of times, the difference in the firewalls between the Dodge and Chevy doesn't allow me to get a good angle. I got a new Lokar flexible dipstick that I'll be putting in this weekend, so hopefully, that will end that issue.

2) I've had problems with my fuel solenoid overheating. It looks like I've got the relay for my "pull" wire set up incorrectly, and that it's a constant charge instead of an initial charge. Again, I hope that I'll be getting through that this weekend.

3) While I should have done this earlier, I've noticed that the original rear brake line mount will get in the way of how I've chosen to route my exhaust. In addition to that, the "soft" line on the Dodge's rear axle is on the driver's side. I'll be extending the existing line more to the centerline of the truck, remake the bracket, in an attempt to gain the extra clearance as well as to line it up better so the flexible brake line has a better angle, allowing it to flex a little bit more. I worry about it right now if I have to get into some of the more flexible 4x4 areas that I tend to find myself in.

Other than that, I keep getting closer. I can see the paint, redoing the interior, and new tires in the near future…. YAY!

Oh man the nightmare just came back to me! I got one of the two in question but that last one has eluded me! I'm gonna have to do it allover again as i do need to take the bed off and take it apart and do some rust repair, prime and repaint ect.
