I think that's a great idea. I for one, will vote for you. Even though your style is nothing like mine, I really admire how you pull it together with "what you have". Even in the face of tons of adversity. This kind of build is just what it takes to get me motivated to go work on my own low dollar junk. I just read the entire thread and loved every bit of it. Wish I had half the motivation you do to get stuff done, even tearing into the 5th wheel and making the best of it was really good stuff. Keep up the great work and keep sharing. Wishing you the best of luck not only in TOTM but life in general.

I like to see low dollar builds rather then high dollar, or bolt on builds because they show that just a average every day person can build too and alot of creativity comes in low buck builds..

thank you! well ive been busy working non stop recently and truck is just being driven so far, but there is stuff i still want to do to it or need to finish like the tow hitch, install a power brake booster, repaint inside the cab, redo front seat, etc etc.... but yesterday i picked up a complete front cross member with the suspension:


first thing i did is tear it down going to keep all the brake parts,spindles, and upper control arms for spare parts...originally i was going to cup my front lower a-arms for my bags to set down in , thus lowering the truck in the front , but after looking at my truck and having a front sway bar installed i decided it would be better to step the control arms to get more clearence drop,so i started to cut up the donor lower control arms and preparing to do a 1 1/2" step up on the lower control arms to lower the front of the truck more...but instead of cutting and raising the ball joint portion up and welding them back on with support gussets like ive seen alot of guys do on the forum here, im going to take my existing lower control arms and weld the cut off parts of the donor control arms on top kinda like a raised ball joint stand ...hard to explain but will take photos of how i do it and update this thread....




and then i got this crazy idea , that since i had a extra crossmember that i might as well pancake it a 1 1/2" and swap it in to lower the truck even more but i havent seen a step notch and pancake crossmember done one truck at the same time so well see how it goes...

going to do the step notch on the lower control arms first and drive it around see how i like it and if I feel that i want the truck lower ill pancake the crossmember....

Hey, I spent a good part of the afternoon looking at your whole build from start to now. You have my respect and admiration. Very resourceful for sure. Done in a driveway for the most part, limited budget and equipment, you have some excellent skills, a lot of ambition, and a lot of cool and unique ideas. I would spend way more time at a show n shine looking at your truck than any billet hot rod. It is easy to see the work and enginuity that is in yours. Way to go, you sir are made from some good stuff.

Really nice build. I like how you adapt, and use whats on hand. Admire your inventivness. I remember you building your other vehicle on that other site, lost track of it a long time ago. You got a link so I can catch up? Is it still going on? Anyway, good stuff.

been busy working but had a little free time and decided to work on the truck today, I decided to work on the heater system that i never reinstalled when i bought the truck,Kinda funny i decided to do it as its getting warmer here and most likely wont use it till next winter ... I decided to use the heater box out of the 63 parts truck i bought , because it already had a heater core and I liked the idea that it is a little smaller then the unit that came in my 66 since i never really liked the look of the heater box crowding the engine bay in these trucks:


I bought a sandblaster pot at a yard sale for $10 and donated it to richies shop had him test it out and sandblast the unit after i tore it apart :

primer and painted the parts and took the new heater motor that I had and reassembled the unit:




installed the heater box:


Next up was tackling the under dash diverter, since i installed my phoney a/c unit that holds my air bag switches and aftermarket gauges I had to modify the diverter box to get it to clear the a/c unit....there was some cool looking under dash vents that came in a box of parts with the 63 chevy c10 i bought and decided to use them on my truck:








I had to cut the feet heater vent part off the diverter box to clear the a/c unit, and the diverter flapper for the dash defroster/ feet/cab heat inside was stuck anyways and the little arm the cable mounts was broke off also and since i didnt need it anymore i took it out:


Got on the welding helmet and practiced my welding(Still welding bird poop welds LOL) and welded some sheetmetal plates on to close the box up:




Since I am using 4 vents now(2 dash defroster vents and 2 under dash vents) I had to cut two extra holes and weld on two vent tube mounts on to accommodate the under dash vents:






little bit of paint and installed it and it just barely cleared the a/c unit, still have to get some vent tubing and hook all the vents up....the diverter box still has the open/close diverter flapper in the long section so ill be able to shut off the heat from coming in the cab from the engine compartment but when its open all 4 vents will be blowing heat at same time...but thats fine with me...:


and last thin i did for today was put in some beat! theres not alot of room with a in cab gas tank and stock bench seat and i wanted to add a little summtin summtin to my sound system so i mounted a amp under the dash and mounted a 10" subwoofer box to the trans tunnel, plan is to cover the top plexi-glass with more black felt/fabric and mount some cup holders on top and build a tray area to hold my junk and turn the top in to a center console and try and hide that its a speaker box...:




I know its kinda ugly but until I get some original style truck "buddy bucket seats" and put the box in between the bucket seats itll work for now....

Its working out great , not much going on with it as far as working on it , besides used a epoxy counter top paint to freshen up the counter top and installed a new sink faucet in the kitchen area...but all in all its working out great started putting money into savings and helping the father in-law around the house just got done building a section of fence for him:

my buddy and i tend to get a little crazy when we work on each others rides, try and keep it fun and make each other laugh so it doesnt seem to much like working...and i needed something to protect the eyes...still ended up swallowing a pound of sand with no mask..I like how the underdash vents turned out also they dont look to out of place i think fit pretty well , waiting for the 2" heater duct to show up so i can finish the heat system and see how well they work

Thanks Murp! I thought my red truck contrasted pretty well against the mural , the sedan painting is kinda hard to get a decent picture with a telephone pole and support cable but thought it was a cool painting!

2" air duct finally arrived in the mail,took a piece of sheet metal and couple small sections of 2" pipe and started out to make my connections for the underdash vents and after some measuring,bending,pop rivits and some foil tape to seal up the backsides I ended up with some adpters to fit the 2" duct and connect to the under dash vents, they look crude but work well:







made a little video to see how well they work , cell phone camrea makes the noise alot louder then it really is...CLICK PICTURE TO VIEW VIDEO:
