I used to use Bondo brand and Dyanlite fillers back in the 90s. When I started my son's 86 project back in 2009 I kept seeing green looking filler on Overhaulin and similar shows. I researched and found it was an Evercoat product. Let's just say there really is a defference in my opinion. It is more expensive but so is sand paper. The newer fillers sand so much easier than the old sticky stuff. They are less prone to shrinkage which will show up as sand scratches after the paint cures.
I promise you, if you try Evercoat you won't go back. Personally, I prefer the Rage gold. LINK.

Not knocking your choice of filler at all Dean, just sharing what I have learned from 100s of hours of sanding....

I Agree totally. there are many different fillers. what i meant was . filler is filler you know.. not like leading..but any way

The bondo that has strands of fiber glass in it is stage two. It is for larger spots and deeper than a dine. Stage three bondo is for spots thinner than a dime. Then you have stage four is for blocking. it fills little spots left in the paint. or stage three bondo.

i test fitted some parts (mainly so i can see the truck again lol)
put a skim of filler on the cab corner
and check out my lock knob

LOL. Another cool idea! Probably pretty good to see it at least sort of back together again, eh?

I haven't noticed the sliding rear window before. I want one of those pretty badly, but haven't found one yet. LMC sells them, but I'm not sure if they are any good. Kind of hit and miss from them for quality some times.

yeah, that was one of the things i liked about this truck. the rear slide is handy

finally painted the engine. i used duplicolor hugger orange. i cant believe i used almost a quart! but i really like the paint. once its dry, it is really tough paint. i did 2 thin coats and a slightly thicker coat.

oh, and i also tinkered around and started fabricating the other cab corner!
its actually thicker metal than repop and the shape is closer to original, i had the old cab corner to look at and copy
still needs some more hammer and dolly work. then i will make the other part of the cab corner and weld them together

the reason i didnt just order the other one is simply becuase i wanted to try something...i like fabbing stuff and not relying on repop peices.

engine somewhat reassembled
carb needs to be rebuild. ill do that sometime when the cab is back on. i wanna fire this thing up soon. im getting copper header gaskets it the mail, and i need to get a starter, then ill fire it up and set the timing

i thought the starter was good but when i tried to turn it over it just clicked , so i pulled it and bench tested it and the motor is shot. will be getting new one

What're the plans for the bottom of the cab? Looks a lot more solid than mine was, that's for sure.

got some copper header gaskets and had a big cookout and baked in the header paint. then i put them on. the passenger side went on smooth but the drivers side required a BFH....no one will see it

and no the lower a arm is not touching the header. the picture is kind of an illusion. there is about an 8th inch space

im just going to paint it black, that way if it starts to rust i can catch it unlike bedliner or undercoating. ive heard that the moisture gets trapped between bedliner and metal
