Re: Raymond

Looks like I missed a lot on your project. I didn't realize you had your truck back home. Sorry to read about the run over on budget and the dissatisfaction in the body work. I hope your shop makes it right with you. That's an unpleasant situation to be in for sure.
Been there done that.

The rendering is super cool. Keep plugging along you will get to enjoy your truck again.

Yeah... I am back to building funds again... This is my bad time of year so not much will happen until probably mid summer... At this point it sounds like he is going to stand up and take care of it and it depends on how he handles this if he get any more work on this truck... I still need to have the roll pan finished, the stake pockets welded and the tail light fuel filler done... also was/am going to have him do the vintage air along with install the American Wire harnesses...

Re: Raymond

I Have a really awesome find for my truck... I found a NOS pair of "Custom Camper" emblems so I will probably sell the ones I had re-plated by Advanced Plating... I was going to yank the engine out of the truck today but can't move it out of the corner by myself so I guess next week I will see if a friend of mine can come down from Wichita to help me wrestle this thing out...

Re: Raymond

I got a little work accomplished over the weekend...

I did a little preliminary block sanding on the roof and back of the cab... Chris Carlson's Hot Rods did a nice job on welding the roof to back of the cab seam...There is very little spot filling that will need to be done to have this paint ready...

I also worked on drilling the holes to mount the "Custom" door emblem holes along with the "Custom Camper" front Fender emblems... I also got the Front Fender molding drill and ready to mount...

I did the test fit for the Bed wheel tubs... The NOS one fit like a glove... the OEM for the right side of the bed needs alot of work... I am still hoping to find another NOS bed wheel house...

The truck is scheduled to go back to Chris Carlson's Monday the 23rd so they can fix the few issues on the truck... Once that is done then it will be balls to the wall blocking and filling then more blocking and filling until this body is PERFECTLY straight... Then maybe I can get paint on it early this summer...

Well that is it for this weekend not alot but at least some forward movement...

Thanks for reading and following along with this project that is so close to my heart...

This is what got me so off track with my bed. When I encountered this same fitment issue, I initially assumed the problem was with the wheel house itself, even though both were OEM. Instead the problem ended up being the repro bedside. You may want to recheck your measurements just to be sure. It's aggravating to buy a new piece only to discover it doesn't fix the problem. You've probably already done this multiple times, but it's better safe than sorry.

Thanks Vic but the original equipment fits fine... I have 1 NOS wheel House and one old OEM that is dented, rusty and overall needs more work than I really want to invest but I may have too...

Thanks Buddy... The ford is looking great can't wait until it is done then back on CRLS... LOL

Nice score on the NOS emblems. I have a real weakness for NOS pieces.

Good luck finding the other wheel tub for your bed. I just used all GM metal on my truck, it was more trouble on some panels but in the end it all worked out good.
BTW, we need some pictures.....

Re: Raymond

Well since my last post I have Scored a set of Buddy Buckets and ordered all new foam for the seats, 1 pair of 15X8 6 lug disc brake steel wheels, and a set of 67 Dog Dish caps that I need to find a good chrome plating place that can fix a couple of small dings and plate them... Anybody know of anyplace in the Kansas, West Missouri, Northern Oklahoma that does good chrome plating?

Not in those areas, but the builder that bought my Olds said the best around here is Sioux Plating in S. Sioux City, NE. They have a website, but the distance from Winfield is 400 one way. Maybe too far for an in-person drop off and pick up.

Re: Raymond

Ok... spent time at the body shop the last couple of days... We have worked through the tail light fuel filler... man it is going to be soooo sweet... Hopefully they can start on it soon... Also have worked a deal with the owner that when it is time for paint I will be shooting the truck in his paint facility... I am stoked about that... It has been YEARS since I painted in a booth so this will be a real treat...

Chris is crunching the numbers so I can try to determine if I can finish the body this year with the Additions that I want to make like the Vintage Air, American Wire, Electric Emergency/parking brake, run the Polished Stainless Steel Brake and Fuel lines along with the body mods like the Tail light fuel filler, welding up the stake pockets, finish welding in the roll pan and installing the LED tag light and cutting the Class 3 hitch opening, make the bed cover, cutting in and sinking the 6x9's into the kick panels and make them disappear, welding up and finishing eliminating the Speaker in the dash, finish welding up the unnecessary holes in the firewall, drill the holes for the side moldings... Then spray the entire truck in K-2 so I can block it one last time with 600... At that point I should be ready for color...

While I am blocking it I am hoping to have them recover the Seat, dash pad, door panels in the white leather diamond tuck... Then do the Full White leather diamond tuck Headliner...

Re: Raymond

We had a heck of a scare last night... Jan and I were watching the 10:00 news when we heard that a Body Shop on Industrial Dr. in Mulvane was on fire... The news didn't say the name of the shop so I tried to call over there with the phone company giving a message that basically said the phones were out at that location...

So we got in the car and drove over to the shop When we rounded the corner this is what we saw... As we pulled up and walked to the shop we Saw Chris' Trailer sitting there and all of the doors were open on the shop... We rounded the front of the trailer and 2 of Chris' show cars (the 66 Mustang full custom and the 66 T-Bird old school Custom) were sitting in the trailer and the trailer was all but burnt completely to the ground an the cars were all but melted...

There was smoke still coming out of the shop Doors... My Heart just sunk... about that time Drew, Chris' son came over and said everything inside was ok... There was alot of smoke damage in the East side of the building and Chris' 60 Pontiac suffered alot of smoke damage but it appeared that all of the customer cars were fine... The building has 3 sections to it with fire doors in between and they were shut... This happened in the East side and Chris was in the West Side of the building in the paint booth painting a car... Our truck was in the middle section of the building about 20 foot from where the fire was...

I am sure they will be shut down for a few days here but we hope they can get caught up and get rolling on our truck...

Hate to hear this Dan. That's a lot of cars affected. Luckily yours has nothing to hold the smoke smell in it. Unfortunately the other 20+ cars may. I'm glad no one was hurt and everything else can be rebuilt, not replaced...but at least rebuilt.
Good luck to Chris and you both.

Re: Raymond

Chris is a great guy... There w wet e only a couple cars on that side of the shop that were customer cars so it should knly be slight smoke problems... Chris was sensible enough to hook on and get the trailer (source of the fire) out of the shop...
