Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
I went to a really cool car show today, Powerfest in downtown Brantford Ontario. There were lots of nice cars parked in the closed off streets, and a display of race cars in a square. The highlight was when they fired up some of the racers, including the Paton Racing Top Fuel dragster. Todd Paton drives it, and they race at some NHRA national events in the US. The team has been based in nearby Paris Ontario for many years. Todd's dad & team owner, Barry Paton raced funny cars in the 70's & '80's.
There were three 60-66 C10's in attendance. I spoke to the owner of the red '62. He got rid of the torsion bars, and swapped in front suspension and rear axle from a 1986 C10. All three trucks were very nice.

Johnny, not checked in much recently so catching up bit, fantastic job on the shifter, real craftsmanship. Cool name too (but seeing as Brian Johnson is from Dunston, about 6 miles from me I would say that )
Great pictures too, love the stepper ( but I suppose I would say that too! Damn I'm getting so predictable in my old age )

Yep, no problem. For a just a local car show, the cars in attendance seemed really nice. Here's another pic of the stepper...

I saw that stepper at the show at Bennett's a week or two ago. I liked his engine bay, especially the hold downs for his battery cover.

Looks like a nice show. It has amazed me at the quality of vehicles at the local shows this year.

Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
Hey Guys, my very busy but fun weekend.
Friday some friends and I went to the local Dirt Track, Ohsweken Speedway, to watch Sprint Cars. Saturday, I had the car show, Brantford Powerfest. On Sunday, I drove my C10 an hour and a half each way to St Thomas Raceway Park to watch nostalgia drag racing. My buddy Irv came with me, as the SB Ford in his Prefect was awaiting re-assembly. I had lots of fun, for sure. Then came a sobering reminder that we need to make our vehicles as safe as possible... When I got home, I heard of a tragic accident not too far away involving a '48 Chevy. All three occupants of the Chevy were killed. The car blew a rear tire, causing it to turn left, resulting in it getting t-boned by a tour bus going the same direction. The '48 burst into flames, then rolled into the ditch. Bystanders were able to get two occupants out of the car, but weren't able to get to the third because of the fire. I have to wonder... 1) Why do people feel the need to videotape and post tragic crashes involving fatalities on the internet? I feel bad for the families involved. 2) What was the condition of the vehicle, as I can't tell from the pics. Was it restored... Pro Street... a Rat Rod? I really hope the car was safe. Here's a link to the news and a pic: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/201...ghway-407.html

Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
Sounds like a fun filled weekend!!!
That really sucks about the accident to bad they all died. They where in the slow lane, probably out for a Sunday drive. We will never get them as safe as a new car, but we can keep them in good running order and stay focused when we drive.

Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
[QUOTE=Johnny_Lamebridge;7664036]Thanks Ian. I didn't realize until now that Brian Johnson is English. I did a little reading and see that he fronted the "Geordies" before getting the ACDC gig. I then had to google to find out what a Geordie is. The things you learn on this forum...
Yes the internet is a wonderful thing, other famous Geordies (myself excluded ) include Sting, Dave Stewart, Brian Ferry, Eric Burdon and Mark Knopfler (George Washington too). But probably most surprising of all Charlie Hunnam (Jax Teller, Sons of Anarchy) is also a Geordie. Ha'way the lads

Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
Too busy to keep up with the forum due to many distractions lately... but here's a quick update.
A week ago Saturday I attended the Old Autos Car Show in Bothwell Ontario. Its a pretty big (maybe too big!) car show open to everything. There were over 1200 cars entered. One of the highlights at this show is the 50/50 draw put on by the local Optimists club. This year they set a record, selling $60,000 worth of tickets. That meant that someone was going to take home $30,000! The draw is held at 4pm,and you have to be there to win. It must be a little unnerving for the winner, collecting a cheque for 30 g's while surrounded by the hundreds of pissed off people that didn't win. I was looking forward to seeing Dale (65sub) at the show. I tried phoning several times but kept getting a busy signal. After several tries I gave up, figuring that maybe the number was no longer in service. Hours later, while poking around in the vendor area I bumped into dale and his daughter Sara. It turns out I was calling his home number . It was good hanging out for the rest of the day and catching up. There were a lot of 60-66's, so here's some pics...

Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
After a long day at the Old Autos show, we drove back to London Ontario to attend the E.L.T.A (East London Timing Association) Summer Bash. Every year, this old car club, the E.L.T.A. has a Saturday night open house and car show at their club house. Hot Rods and Customs lined the street, and a band playing 60's surf music. Along the outside of the clubhouse are old Front Engine Dragsters, Roadsters, Gassers, a Funny Car, etc. And the best part of the whole party is the "cackle fest". One by one, they fire up a bunch of the drag cars. Its awesome seeing the header flame and hearing the beautiful noise out of these machines. Best night of my summer for sure!
Here are the pics I got before my phone died...

Here's a pic from the E.L.T.A. bash a couple years ago that I borrowed from www.lugnutsmagazine.com
If it's hard to see, the young boy is toasting marshmallows over the header flames on this nitro-injected Hemi roadster.

Re: My '63 C10 "I'd rather be driving" Project
I put a few miles on the C10 that weekend. We stayed overnight in London, then drove to Port Stanley on Sunday morning. Its a small beach town on Lake Erie. On the way, I passed an old garage with a bunch of rusty old 70's cars outside. I stopped to get a quick pic.
I hope Harv doesn't mind.

It was very nice meeting you too, Gerrard. I'm glad you're happy with the bumper, and that I won't be tripping over it anymore.
Last Sunday was my 1st ever attempt at vending at a swap meet. I had a great day... sold off lots of extra parts... and made a few bucks. But the high point of my day was when you (Gerrard) (canadian_diesel1964) walked up and asked "are you Johnny Lamebridge?" Ahh, finally... my 15 minutes of fame!

Looks like you had a fun and event filled summer. That hotrod show with the nitro cars would have been my favorite too. I always get a little bummed out when summer comes to a end. Just got to try to cram a little more fun into the fall this year…
Your truck looks great, very glad you're getting to enjoy it. |
