Great work on the chassis, exhaust, plumbing...all looking first rate!

Good luck with the Firebird.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread

My pictures have been decimated by Photobucket. They want $400 what a rip off.

I'm testing new ways of posting pics.

Well that didn't work, I'll keep trying

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread

So were mine. I know it is in french but if you can use trial and error, then http://www.hostingpics.net might be for you. I'm french canadian so no problem for me. Oh! Even if there is a flag for changing the language for English in the upper right corner, it doesn't work. But the hosting is free and easy to use. I already began to replace all the links I had on a 15 pages tutorial elsewhere. Hope this helps!

If you don't like the french hosting, then you may have a look there for other alternatives to photobucket: https://www.ghacks.net/2017/07/02/ph...r-third-party/

When you find a good one, please share your find with other members here too.

On your power steering set up, did you install a PS cooler?

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread

Frusted posting pictures. Used Vge.me but cant seem to load the website. So now I'm trying Imugr but can only post to forum using a desktop computer. Will not work on iPad or iPhone. And the images are massive! No idea how to scale things down (figured it out). Looking for image hosting recommendations.

As for the build, painter has had it for a few months now and is taking his time. So I've been enjoying the open garage and getting stuff done around the house. The wife and I have been practical over the years and she never got the fun car she always wanted. I've built a few choppers and now building the truck but she never got something fun for herself and after I bought her a new minivan I felt kinda bad. With the space for a quick project and with her in mind, I picked up a 2006 mini cooper convertible with engine misfire. The PO was done with the car since it wasn't reliable and was a money pit. Picked it up for cheap and was prepared to remove the cylinder head and rebuild the top end. Take a look at the picture above. It was a $20 intake valve spring and the car was back on the road in no time. Happy wife, happy life.

No PS cooler.

Went to the painters shop a couple days ago to see no progress. He promised he will start jamming on it soon. Since the paint is gonna be high end on this truck I had Brett Howell make me custom engine covers. I'm just not at this level of fabrication yet, unfortunately. The plastic Vortec cover just won't do this justice. While fitting the covers, I decided to delete the catch can in the spirit of keeping things as clean as possible. Also switched to lokar dipsticks. Hey, at least the truck was kept inside under plastic!

Fender is 11.5" deep so it will be a tight fit but doable with the pan hard. I'm going to replace my 58" with either a 60 or 62" not sure yet but 58 is def too short. Bed is 50" wide plus 11.5 for the fender. So I would need a spacer for the wheels or Custom make a 9" wide wheel with a 3" backspace. Best thing to do is get a wider axle I think....
Just going back through your thread looking for tips. Very nice build and some great parts! I have a Currie 9" rear, mine was at 60" wide. I'm running Foose wheels - 20x10 and 20x8.5. I did tub my bed slightly and ended up narrowing the rear to ~58" to tuck the tires just inside the fender lip. My rear tires are 305's and are 12" wide though.

Having followed your CFL builds, I’m sure it will not disappoint.

Is it going to be a Hot Dog level paint job?

[QUOTE=Flysocal;7441468]

Jerry from Dr Js rebuild 3 of my door hinges. One was good. Should have them back in a couple days.

I'm curious about the hinge rebuild. Mine are in need and I can't get them apart to do it myself. the Dr. J's you mentioned the "Doctor J Automotive" in Huntington Beach? Do they normally rebuild hinges? would you go to them again?

Thanks!

Perfect! Not cheap but mine are ridiculously hard to take apart (can't do it) and the springs are busted and the hinges jam and sag. This will work for me. Thanks!

No sir. Time to light a fire I think. Been working sheetmetal on my wife’s 68 firebird vert. It needs a lot of work. Trying to stay busy in the garage and panel replacement takes more time than money which works for me right now.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3100 Build Thread

I'm regretting hiring a painter so far away. 1.5hrs means no regular pop up visits. Slow progress but some progress. Cab bodywork is almost done and its in primer. Underside and inside of cab has been textured. Was nice to see it looking like a truck again but nowhere near done. He promises April 28 finish but he also promised November, December and almost every month thereafter so we shall see.
