Thanks for the compliments my friends! I’m glad to see everyone enjoying it as much as I am. Can’t wait to get some paint on the bed and get that mounted on. I’m thinking by end of august I should have the bed painted and possibly mounted. That’s the goal anyways

Not much progress to update. Took a break in the truck to start on the bed. Primered and painted all the edges that mates to one another and bolted it together for the last time. Got the tailgate installed and finally got to use my one year only 1971 cheyenne super tailgate handle that I got off the board here.. epoxy primered the bottom and sprayed the same textured stuff as I did on bottom of cab and inner fenders. Just gotta mock up the trim on the tailgate and taillight bezels and mount the bed to my dolly wagon and it is ready for body shop. Hoping to have it back before the end of august..

Back on the truck. Got a ton of small parts installed in the engine bay. Auxiliary battery tray, power steering resivior, rad and shroud. About 90% finished up with the vintage air install. Just need to finish some more wiring for it. Got the grille completely installed. I’m not a fan of the shaved firewall look from the vintage air so I installed an OEM AC box to hide all the connections and wiring coming out of firewall. Some probably won’t like it but it suits me.. gonna keep trucking along with this build but I’m itching to get some coolant in it and move it under its own power…

Progress has been slow as I’m having hood fitment issues. Will get them worked out tho. Lesson learned on not dry fitting the hood before paint. Live and learn. Switched gears and got the bed painted up. Got it back home and painted the underneath with flat black to match the bottom side of the cab. Did some scuffing and sealing on the inside of the bed and laid down a paint matched Bedliner. Super happy with this turn out. Put some single stage blue in the liner bottle itself to get as close of a match as I can. Got new wiring installed and taillights installed. Been waiting years to mount up a woodgrain tailgate band as I’ve never owned a truck with one.. hoping to set the bed in a couple weeks and then it will be looking like a semi complete truck

Dang it’s been forever since I posted on here. Apologies to the people that were following along.. so two things happened that took the wind outta my sails and moved this project on hold for the time being. I poured a crap ton of money and time and effort into this truck over the past 3-4 years.. the first big set back is I got the bed painted and did my Bedliner. Installed the bed and rolled outside and sadly the blue on the bed is nowhere close to matching the rest of the truck. That needs to be repainted. So after tht ordeal I figured I’d finish up everything in the front end and get interior installed. Well after spending numerous hours trying to get the hood to close I had my paint guy come try a crack at it. We have come to the conclusion that at some point in the trucks life that I used the frame from was hit on the passenger side and pushed the front of the frame over to the drivers side about 1.5-2”. He assured me a good frame shop can pull that back to true with ease just a matter of scheduling and hauling there.. so at this point after putting close to 30k into this build I since put it in the pole barn and it has been sitting since august there. Got engaged in October of 2022 and planning a wedding for 2023 and anticipating buying property off my dad I don’t know when I will get back on this truck. Dreaming of this build for years and just one thing after another. I know it’s part of the process for a one off truck but my inexperience in building a truck from the ground up really showed here. Just a bummer but I will finish it at some point.. just wanted to update my thread as I miss the interaction with the board members tht have been following the build …

I meant to tell you to finish it before getting engaged. I will just tell you to get yours done before having kids. I haven't touched my crew cab since I rolled it out for a pic with my son. That was 2020.

Good luck with the projects, they will be there when the timing is right.

Not much to update but the truck made it back into the shop. Really planing on getting back on this thing and trying to finish up this year. It’s been long enough. Haven’t touched it much since august 2022.

Great looking truck! I'm going to go back and get caught up on it, but glad to see you back on it. I also am working on a way to use the factory a/c suitcase to cover up the vintage air stuff.

Forgive me if it's a sore topic, but what do you think caused the blue on the bed to be off from the cab? Different primers/no sealer? I'm just a little nervous because I panel painted, but I used the same sealer on everything and I was using two solid colors, I guess I'll find out this spring when I can get it in the sun. I have a pretty good chance I'll need to repaint my hood and just looking for any tips that I might be missing. Thanks, keep up the great work.

The two big differences between painting the cab and bed was time of year, outside temperatures and I used a different reducer on the blue between the cab and bed. The cab was sprayed in April with about 50 degree outside temps. The bed was sprayed in august at about 85 degrees outside. Same air pressure and same gun used thru out the painting process. Idk a lot about paint and body work but those were the differences that i can think to cause the issue.

Small victory over the weekend. After taking truck to frame shop and pulling the front end over about 1.25” towards the passenger side the hood now is mounted and adjusted and is working properly!! Definitely happy with the result. Now I’m more motivated to get back in the shop and get working on the truck.

Little update on the truck. Got the bed repainted and bolted back on. Much better paint match this go around. Went ahead and put all the trim on the bed. Got the rear bumper installed. Finishing up under the hood is next on the list. Have some wiring to do with the vintage air yet and alternator wiring and small stuff suck as grounds. I think I’m getting closer to putting this truck in gear and moving under its own power. After that all that is left basically is full interior. I can see the light at end of the tunnel
