I went to go get the mail, and today our local dealership said "maybe it's time for an upgrade. try the new 2014 corvette!"
The insurance company sent a guy to board up the hole where the garage door used to be, and he asked us if anything else was damaged. We said ohh yeah. A vehicle lift, 120 gal air compressor. The guy came back with "Oh! I guess the porsche went up too?" we exclaimed how'd you know?!!?

Haven't checked in for awhile. Had to finally shed the Corvette valve covers for some that had PVC and breather ports. Not a bad trade.

Also replaced the seat with a 60/40 from an '89, as well as matching door panels and armrests

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

SNAKE BRAKES!!! I jacked up the back end of my 51 3100 today for the first time and put stands under it. The master cylinder was a frozen solid chunk of iron and rust so I expected bad stuff to fix. This thing sat for about 30 years.I got the wheels off and there is still black paint on the drum surface.Hmmm... A light tap and the drum pops right off. The drum surface is smooth and the shoes have life left in them. Star adjusters still turn and no apparent wheel cylinder leakage.I'm pretty impressed. I found a hitchhiker though. A baby rattlesnake got in the drum somehow and died wrapped around the star adjuster. About a foot long.skin still intact so you can see the pattern on it's back but it's dried up some.No idea how it got in there, the adjuster hole isn't that big. ---Jack

Snake brakes

Here's the snake I unwrapped from around the star wheel. I figured out how he got in. There is a hole bored in the axle flange that corresponds with another hole in the drum.---Jack

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Can you guys explain something to me? What happens in the cold to the fuel system to need to warm it up like that? Fuel isn't going to freeze so it is the vapor system? It gets moisture or something?

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Most gas has some water in it. Water vapor in the fuel line freezes and blocks the line.I think it's less common these days because the alcohol added to modern gas absorbs the moisture.---No expert---Jack

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Won't happen in CA except maybe in the Sierra's. When it gets really cold around here fuel lines and carbs will freeze, in the 80's my 235 equipped truck was the only vehicle that would start, wifes Honda was frozen solid at 15 below. Later in the 90's same thing happened but my DD then was 41 Master Deluxe with 216, again it was the one that would start that cold. Big carb jets and passages made the difference.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

It's water vapor that comes from the moisture in the air above the fuel that condenses when it gets cold. Since fuel is lighter than water, the condensation settles in the lower part of the tank or fuel line where it can freeze. It's always a good idea to keep a good amount of fuel in the tank especially when it gets really cold. The condensation comes from moisture in the air above the fuel (mostly). If you limit the amount of air above the fuel, you are limiting the amount of moisture in the system. The antifreeze additives are made to absorb the water in the system so it can't freeze.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Snow, 27 degrees and a Nasty wind chill today. It was a planning and research day. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I had serious plans to drill the rivets out of the front crossmember (GMC) and fit the Chevy crossmember in place.

We got the front clip, cab, doors and rear fenders all sanded with 180 grit so we can get some epoxy primer sprayed. We only have another hour or so of sanding and then I will treat some of the surface tugs to the CLR and scotch brite pad treatment.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Its been raining steadily here in So Calif. the last 3 days. Today the sun finally came out and I took a few minutes to install the stainless tail lights that 57chevyman posted about last week. They look alot better than my Walmart $6 trailer lights that I had on before. Next project will be to install my blue dots into these lenses.

Nothing pretty. I managed to remove my rear suspension. Man was that a dirty job. I'm glad this part is over with.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Good weekend. Got the wiper fluid hose routed. Dropped in a battery and started checking circuits. Everything is working so far, except for a couple of things that are not critical; transfer case 4wd indicator and over-ride switch for the courtesy lights I installed. More info in the build thread.
