Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
"Restored" my driver side door on my 1970 GMC. Removed door panel. Washed out inside of the lower door w/Dawn, brush and rinse. Blow dry w/air hose. Remove upper/lower door trim, door handle, mirror, door lock and "custom" emblem. Wet sand door (lower inside and the entire outside) w/1500. Buff w/Wizard compound; wax, buff, wax, wax, buff... Clean up "Custom" badge, door handle and window roll up handle w/toothbrush and Barkeeper's Friend. Used Dremel to buff the door/key lock cylinder (sweet). Used heat gun to remove old woodgrain trim and replaced w/new...looks great. Had to hammer and dolly a couple of dents in it, also. Put it all back together except for the lower trim before it got too dark. Did not put the door panel back on because there's significant rust behind the vinyl covering...so looking for one of those. Found 3 metal passenger sides in the barn, but no driver.....Absolutely wonderful late fall day in OK, had Christmas music playing all day...was in a good place.

Got my "custom" New Vintage 1939 series gauge cluster all wired up and installed. I'm MUCH happier with the LED backlighting of these gauges vs. their perimeter bulb back lit 1940 series with curved lens.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
They are actually a touch cheaper than Dakota digital VHX gauges ( which I really don't care for). Their smaller accessory gauges are much larger and easier to read in a C10.
They have several styles. Just make sure the style you like is the L.E.D. backlit Gen II. http://www.newvintageusa.com/directfit.html I had a long lunch so I went out for a drive. Love ColoRADo, 12/7 and I'll be driving the truck everyday this week while tweaking the suspension & EFi tune at night. |

Looks great! and what's that cover piece under the dash, it hides part of the E-brake handle? Is that factory or made?

They are out of a 2007 Tahoe. All electric, I removed the headrests and the air bags and the foam was replaced with foam from a 2005 Buick Rainier. he cut the foam a little here and there to kind of make them a somewhat custom set.

Put my front bumper on to replace the 2x6s that the previous owner had on the front. Looks a lot better now =]

Wow. Done a lot that I haven't listed.
Got the oil pump sorted, engine is back together, ditched the flex fan and mounted some electrics, replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an electric, and got my YOM plates on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I didn't do it today but earlier this week. About three weeks ago, the generator sheared a bolt and fell off my 70 C20. So, I upgraded the distributor to HEI and changed it over to an alternator. It's amazing how much better it runs. I think I need to rebuild my carburetor.
I ordered taillight buckets. The drivers side socket had come apart. Let's see, I have a rear wiring harness I got from LMC I am going to install when I get the taillight a bucket. Now to line up the next upgrades. Always something. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I reasssembled the grill. *I wish I could get pics up, it looks really good.* I used the "rivet bolts" a fellow member suggested and those tightened right up.
I had to get help from dad with a punch to help align the holes for the replacement grill bracket but my old grill bracket lined right up. I hope the slight tweaking doesn't cause problems later. I loaded up my car with all my remaining truck parts but I haven't taken those home yet. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Stuck the doors and a fender on it so I have something to stare at while I collect more parts... I guess I can work on alignment and seams for now... Not sure I should even bother since I think Im gonna re-skin the doors. Skins are good thats on it but the inside of the doors need attention along with bottoms..

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Painted my wheel covers and cleaned the back side. They were pretty nasty. The SEM trim black paint is awesome, I used a small paint brush. New wheels and tires mounted also.
