Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I like your valve covers. I think I would want to find someone with a steady hand and paint the recessed areas orange.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Ok, I won't tell you...it does get good gas mileage and hauls the boy's baseball equipment nicely...
Alan, I know that you will make the right choice on what to do about the valve covers. You have done such a good job with every thing else on this build. Another thought would be to the valve covers and air cleaner in gloss black with the orange detailing in the lettering. Just another idea to toss around.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I'd vote either orange to match the block (and a stock upgraded look) and keep the chrome air cleaner...
...or paint it the roof color w/ or w/out the orange filling the recess area (more subtle without) I'd recommend to paint the air cleaner the same roof color if you paint them that color. If not, as others have said, there will be too many colors/finishes going on... I'd even paint the brake booster the same color at that point...but that's just me being ocd...

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
If they were mine to do, it would be the second one I colored for you.
To me the simple black lettering, with the 2 color wavelength looks classy, pops, but does not go over board. My wife liked the last 2, but to me the lettering with the orange in it was over the top, looked too busy to me. I wanted you to see them before I voted on which one I liked. Good luck on whatever you decide to do, versus what you end up doing of course LOL !!!

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I have my own ideas that's a little different, but still on track. Ditch the chrome air cleaner for a painted one to match the Orange & silver Valve covers. And use all chrome bolts on the valve covers to accent it.

Dennis could you please link me where to get that air cleaner? I have not seen it in any of the catalogs yet and I really want one!

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Alan, I'm trying to figure out why you need power at that location. My temp sensor is a grounding source to turn on the fan, or complete the circuit, when the temp gets hot enough to close the switch in the sensor. Most sensor are just on/off switches to ground, at least the ones I've used on my vehicles. Your wiring kit should have a power wire in it for the fan. If you want I could get the wiring diagram I used for my fan!

I guess your picture of the Grile when it was laying down gave me the impression it was a darker color, no excuses for not getting up there and seeing it in person

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
If you use the diagram from Vinage Air you elimate the need to run power throught the temp switch. It pretty similuar but uses fewer wires... From the relay Pin 30 would go to a circuit breaker then to the battery or 12 volt source.
Pin 87 would go to the fans just as you now have. Pin 86 would have one wire to the temp sensor Pin 85 would have one wire to the 12 volt ignition on/off. You could add an optional on by adding a wire from Pin 86 to the ac compressor wire some where not on the engine in the wiring someplace. You would need to check you wiring diagram to see where you could tap into that wire.. Should be easy and no need to run a power wire back to the ignition switch By using the Vinage Air wiring diagram you don't need the 30 amp fuse in the fan circuit but do use a 40 amp circuti breaker in the 12 volt battery supply circuit.. Circuit breaker makes it better if the fan should ever over draw the dircuit it would kick out then reset in a few minutes giving you time to save the engine from overheating due to a blown fuse. Just my thoughts. Last edited by 57truckguy; 02-02-2012 at 02:30 AM. |

It's getting closer. Hey, wait it minute it's not a Mazda. Didn't do much except clean up a little, installed the passenger sunvisor and took the skates out from under it. I'm use to it being higher, now with the skates out it's totally different. I took an areial shot also.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Alan , I just went to Napa an ask for a temp switch that turned on at 190, Real cheap and easy.
I figured that I wouldn't need the compressor switch since anytime the engine gets to 190 the fan would come on anyway.. Some add an additonal fan to come on when the ac compressor is on for the extra insurance to keep the engine cool during slow( parades, etc,) driving. May be needed may not. depends on how good your cooling system is setup. I acually used the triary switch setup, a little more complated but a safer system for the ac.. If I had it to do over I would probably go with the binary system to give some protection to the compressor and keep the wiring simplar. |
