Re: What did you do to your truck today!
That's beautiful, Bennett. REALLY beautiful!
I've been diverted for a few days. Had to go pick up my newly built ride in Santa Cruz. Lots to do on the truck. And winter's going to be closing in (again). But I'm only one guy.

Got the power steering working two weeks ago. Replaced the front brakes this week and adjusted the parking brake.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well, I did make it over to the shop today. Climbed under for the thirtieth time (still up on jacks in the front) to check the front brake line connection. New SS LMC lines. They don't send you a "T" with the "kit"....
.....So I am using the old one. Leak...leak...leak. Now I can't figure out whether there's a leak, or the brake fluid is some that I missed last time... that just hung on the coiled wire covers until I wasn't looking. Maybe it was from the twenty-eighth time I was under there "adjusting" (tightening and adjusting) the lines. If there's any more fluid there next time, I'm going for a new "T". Also, I got the speedo gear housing changed out. Since I'm chasing leaks, the trans needed some attention. With the advice of some Forum Members, I switched it out and wore a "clean suit" while I was under there. If it's anything like the brakes, I'll be fussing around with it for another year before I feel the breeze in my face.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
FINALLY got my brake lights fixed! Turns out the problem was a bad turn signal switch. Between this and my never ending horn problems, I know WAY more about the steering column now than I ever dreamed of or wanted to. Oh, and if you are going to replace the brake light switch in one of these trucks, do it while you're young, before you get bi-focals and arthritis .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Had to replace fan clutch tonight after work. It was working fine, not loose or spinning free last week when I replaced radiator, all hoses and thermostat.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Had A/C recharged today. New hoses and fittings didn't leak, nice cold air again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
. . . .
After three LONG years, I finally got it back from it's restoration. We took it to a local cruise and it's now back in the garage where it belongs. Now, I have to start doing all the "little" things that needed to be finished before it left !!! . . . .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Replaced the front panel in my bed. The old one was pretty bent from 40+ years of stuff sliding from the back and slamming into the front of the bed when ya' stomped on the brakes. Funny thing...the old bent panel fit better then the new Taiwan replacement. Go figure!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My trimmed and crimped A/C hoses were back in my mailbox from Vintage Air.
Total of one week to turn around from San Antonio, TX. Around here, there's no one to do the job right. Vintage Air knows some of us live "in the woods". So they offer the cutting and crimping service free of charge. Cost me ten bucks for freight...that's all. And it's done to my lengths....and to their specs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Installed the Radiator, Hold down clamps, front headlight buckets, battery box, hood, cowling and started to align the gaps in it all. What a job!!!!!!
I ran out of paint to black the clamps and the top of the radiator out. So they are just primed. I just hope I dont have to take the front clip apart again. Here are some pics. |
