Re: What did you do to your truck today?
well not today but last weekend took my 65 one ton dually on its first trip on the highway. friday night my 17 year old and I left after work on a 190 mile trip. truck vapor locked on us 4 times and had to wait to let it cool off for about 30 minutes each time. Finally the sun went down then truck ran great. Saturday mourning went and bought camper that mounts to frame and got it set on truck and welded to frame, camper is a 1970 WEEK N DER camper that was on a 1970 ford 1 ton. My truck origanally had a camper on it so it is cool to remove the flat bed and turn it back into a motorhome. So then Sunday headed back home with the 10 year old along, with the camper on the truck would only run 55 to 60 mph and the truck was running 250 deg, had to stop at every town and on the side of the road sometimes to cool off. Just a tip most elevators-co-ops have a faucet with garden hose out. and also a lot of city parks have faucets that work. took a long time to get home but we made it, outside temp was 115 deg witch didnt help but the boy and I had a system we would pull over I would get out and pour water on rad. and the boy would slide over and rev up engine till it cooled off and then off to next town. Was a great memory with both boys on trip there and back.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
What a great story. Your kids (and no doubt yourself) will never forget the adventure. I still vividly remember the trip home 48 years ago in my very first car, a 1946 Chevy sedan. It was a 20 mile trip that took several hours because the carburetor leaked like sieve and flooded the engine every few miles. I can still remember the smell of gasoline soaked shoes, mixed with old cloth cigarette discolored upholstery.
Good to hear you made it home safely. |

Great story, and a great way to teach your son about old vehicles and the patience that is sometimes required. He will always remember those times with his dad. I know I do!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
It's a manual transmission, I meant to say it's out of an IROC z28 Camaro. I'll have to find out what model it is.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Cool new toys there, wutnxt.
I released about a pound of 40-year-old dirt from between the passenger side rockers (some of it's still in my left eye…) Good news is, the inner needs only minor repair after cleanup. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I put on an electric fan - Only to realize it was failing. (Grinding sound inside the lil motor) I then re-installed the clutch fan and fan shroud, then I figured out that adjusting a carburetor is apparently outside the limits of my mental abilities. It smokes worse now than before... White smoke that I am sure is quite flammable and would be a good fire starter under the right conditions. The thought of flame-throwers flashed in my mind. Then, I said "Um, No, Sam, No" and then drove it out to recover my buddy's broken down Ford Ranger.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
To drive my truck at highway speed you had to be "up on the wheel" all the time as the NASCAR people say. It wanted to wander all around and rode like a buckboard. So I did some experimenting. I raised the tire pressure from 32 to 36 PSI. That partially solved the wandering problem. Then I replaced the KYB GR-2 shocks with a set of Monroe Sensi-Tracks. Wow what a difference!! Now it rides like a Cadillac and handles like a slot car racer.

Put my trans cooler and fuel tank in, tank fit good (CPP) took 3 weeks to get, the intall kit for fill thru bed still needs fab to work at tank inlet as it comes with a screw on cap
