I've been following this build for quite awhile and as everyone else has said, awesome job! You have me motivated to get started on mine. My brother has been in the body shop business for 40 yrs. so I know what kind of skill it takes to do something like this. You are truly a master craftsman. I hope I can get to Pigeon Forge, but if I don't, I may just cruise to Memphis someday. I'm only a couple hours away. I would really like to see your truck in person.

The seats are bolted directly to the floor and I have a post showing exactly where to drill the holes.

I worked on my hide-a-dash tonight and welded studs to the mounting plate. Here it is just sitting in the glove box hole. I need a plexiglass faceplate and I will cover the green metal in upholstery.
The idea here is to have all the modern information available, but usually out of sight behind the glove box door.

Why not cover the whole thing with a single piece of plexi with the area over the metal painted black from the back side so it blends in with the gauge face.

Snicker! One that can be pulled off and make scary faces at other drives with the detached wheel in hand! It will take them a second to rember wich side the driver is on.

I can't get to the backside to mount it, but with the metal plate and studs I can put it together on the bench and then mount the metal plate from the front. A picture will help visualize when I finish it.

Nice work Drew! For the older gauges, can't you just install the factory sensor and oil pressure line in ports in the engine? Or are there no extra ports on these newer engines?

Yes, oil pressure can be tapped off of a plate on the engine. Volts are also easy. Spedo is not. Gas gauge is not.

Of course not! I pulled the edges up slightly so I could fully sand and paint behind it.

Really bummed, but I think I was sent the wrong carpet set.
I ordered a high hump kit and it says on the box it is for the "400 transmission", but its too short in the front from side to side. The rear of the front piece seems to be wide enough (pics 3 &4) but the front that goes over the high hump ends up being 2 inches too narrow at my passenger kick panel.
Do you think they will send me a replacement?

The last carpet kit I got was about 2" too long at each door opening.
It had to be trimmed to fit.
I believe it came from Brother Truck Parts. (not sure of the brand)

I would send that back.
Order for a 4x4 burb or 4spd manual trans and you will get the high hump version for sure.
Most companies just specify low hump or high hump.

Interesting. Last year I bought a carpet from ACC for my low hump, and it was too full over the hump. I ended up putting a couple of extra layers of padding over the hump to fill it out. Looks like their molds aren't too accurate.

About 6 years ago I got the ACC carpet for my 72 suburban with the high hump. It was also about 2 in to short on the ends. I sent it back and the next set was about 1/4 inch to short. Same carpet number on both sets. Everything in the back fit really well.

ACC has always been known to make nice replacement carpets- hope they work with you

I had the same problem with them on two different cars. Too short up front.

Not quite as short as yours so my sill plates just barely covered the edge of the carpet (like 1/16" under the edge barely).

I should have sent them back as the edges come out from under the sill plates when I vacuum the car out.
