Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finally finished my internally regulated alternator swap! I put a bus bar on the core support and ran an 8ga cable to the other junction, cleaned out a bunch of old bad wiring, then redid a bunch of grounds and added a better thicker ground cable from the block to the frame. Now even though the battery is in the bed, it has 14.4 volts with lights and wipers on and the battery ammeter still works. Maybe not a big deal for many folks, but this was a victory for me! So stoked!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I've been working on improving the u-joint angles on my two-piece driveshaft. I discovered that the center support was quite loose, despite the fact that it is only about a year old and has just a couple thousand miles on it. A local driveline shop rebuilt the driveshaft and installed a new center support. I'm not sure what the brand is of that one, but I ended up replacing it with a Federal Mogul/Bower/BCA unit that was made in the USA. Here's a video that compares the two center supports.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

removed the matching numbers 44k original mile 350 from the 72, full tear down and inspected the entire engine...bearings good and resuable, new oil pump, timing chain, Comp Cam 268, Lunati cam saver lifters, all new gaskets, seals, 1 piece oil pan gasket.
cleaned and sprayed epoxy primer on the engine, followed by single stage hugger orange color...think it turned out good....engine is back in the truck and running well now. Cant wait to put some miles on the ol girl.

I pulled the remaining wires. Cut the new firewall bulkhead hole, and mounted the bulkhead. Today, I'll start running new wires.

New delco for old delco plug wires.
Amazing the difference.
Always thought that old blue just hated the rain, turns out just the wires didn't.
New truck

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Took out the 72 to get some diesel for the Kubota. Nice day and we had rain last few days so whatever salt was in the road was washed away . But because we’re in the NYC reservoir watershed they can’t use much salt on the road .
