Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
All I did today was box up the NOS grill guards (first things bought from this site) and put those away in the garage with the rest of the "parts cubicle."

After 5 1/2 months at the paint shop I finally got to bring my truck home today! Merry Christmas to me, now I just have months of putting it all back together.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
For various reasons finishing my build has stalled some this year, but things are getting started again. What I did today is really what Ive done over the last week or so. (no new pics uploaded yet)
first I finished cutting and buffing the grille, lower valance and the front fenders. Then I installed the valance, grille, parking lights, fan shroud and clutch fan. Then the fun started--reinstalling the right front fender. It took three tries to figure out "why" it wasn't fitting. A little history---- when we dis assembled my truck in the beginning we found serious rust in both upper cowl corners. I had to buy a doner cab, both A posts were cut out and new welded back in. We braced the truck many way to insure no twisting or displacement. The new A posts were welded in below the lower door hinge. IN exactly the wrong place!!!! The weld ended up being just slightly thicker than the original post--at exactly where the inner fender brace came the closest to the door post. Rather than grinding on the door post where it could be seen (requiring repainting in a noticeable place--I opted to notch the inner fender brace (aprox. 1/4"") All went well---fender fits nicely, inner fender was repainted. Life is good, Santa is home again with Ms. Claus and I may get to start working on the left front side today or tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
After almost 3 years of essentially doing other to my old K/10 it got a little love over the long weekend!
The tranny gave up the ghost in 2013, and with a new business, life, ect. it sat on the back burner for a bit. I did have a trans built, and went ahead and pulled the 454 to fix a clearance issue. While the motor was out, and the truck was no longer my daily driver I decided a new cam was in order. While finishing up the cam install I dropped a head and broke a valve spring, valve, guide... Off to the machine shop. I got the engine put back together and installed, and the truck sat for several months. At one point it was shoved outside and covered with a tarp. After moving it to my new shop, I went to putting it all back together and found water in the pan. Not just a few drops, it was filled to the bottom of the pistons!!! Yank the motor back out and realize its no quick fix, back apart it comes and I send the bottom end to the machine shop for a freshen up. I ordered my parts, and re-assembled the engine this past spring. We got it back between the rails, trans installed and then life got in the way again for a few months. At christmas dinner the old man finally harassed me enough about it that we made plans to spend a couple days working on it over the weekend. Over the course of a few hours we were able to tie up most loose ends, got the T-case back in the truck and are now working on the small details to get it back to running and driving. After 3 years, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been building cars for over 10 years and NEVER had one apart this long. Its amazing what life can do to our plans sometimes! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I finally got around to installing my Undercover Innovations panels. I needed to Dremel out a hole for the A/C and locate some black edging (as they didn't supply enough to trim both panels completely). Also applied some paint to the bottom of the battery box.

Replaced my taillights, licence plate light, park lamp lights and lenses, and dash lights with leds. The instrument lights are definitely a improvement because they were really dim.

Well nothing has been going on for the 70, but I did finally put a new engine in Lula-Bell. Another project down one closer to getting back on the 70.
