Welcome to the site. There's a serious shortage of drag trucks here. Nice to have another addition.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Sorry guys, had to share the grief....found this on my last junkyard trip. The passenger side was far worse off than the driver's, there was pretty much nothing on it worth taking with me. Still a sad sight, and something I wasn't quite ready for walking around the corner.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

I think I need to find a therapist, seeing a nice truck sitting there in a scrap yard with still so many parts that someone could use but can`t get to it or can`t afford them. Breaks my heart!

daverod,
Where did you see it? I remember that truck when I was just a youngster. It went through 5 Chevy dealers while in Rigby. I think the paint job got hammered when the Rigby Chevrolet caught fire a few years ago.

There's a picture of a rotted stretched suburban without the front visor section, throughs the look off completely.

First off let me say everytime I see your truck avatar it takes me ten minutes to get the smile off my face.

Arguably, the most distinctive design feature of our 60-66 trucks is the "duck bill sunvisor and spoiler" on the roof.

Nobody would argue though that it isn't a huge air brake and I have thought about how we can do better. Rather than remove the sunvisor fabricate multiple rectangular tubes that allow the air to go through the visor and out the top. I am sure you have seen bolt on visors for modern trucks, they allow the air to flow through. Same concept but do so such that you keep the original styling, but make it more aero correct.

Keep the form, improve the function, the Hot Rodders credo.

This would be easier to implement too as it retains the roof and windshield profiles, IMHO.

What do ya think?

Do it... you know you want to!

I agree the Design is distinctive and adds to the truck...........Not something that I would do.........I wondered if anybody had done this.
Thanks for the good words on my truck..........Losts of people come up to me at the drag strip and ask why..........All I say is because I can.
After winning a round I have people litererly hanging over the fence giving me thumbs up...... thats a good feeling.

Thanks for responding. 406 huh? Care to divulge the specs on that bad-boy (comp, cam set-up, intake/carb). While I'm not suprised about the 1.5x 60fts, I am suprised the 12-bolt has lived through that many passes w/that kind of power & a 5500 stall.

I don't have real world experience yet, but my engine builder in Maryland does.(Bill Cannon- Awesome Engines) He has assured me these are very strong rear ends. I'll have to let you know how it turns out.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Here's the 66 GMC 910 I bought when I was 16. It had a 283 and a 3 on the tree. It was my first insured vehicle and I drove it year round for about two years. Don't know why I rattle canned it, I guess green isn't cool when you're 16.. I really like the original color now though.
