Re: PO has me PO'd
tank is mounted in truck, filler neck hose installed. What a pita putting tank up even with a trans jack
seems the repop manufactorer coundn't measure, as the mounting holes for the "U" bracket were off by a 1/4", didn't have a tool to do the job quickly so I just grabbed a rat tail file, and made a bunch of noise Later will install rubber, between tank and straps. also, received a filler neck clamp from Eric(1972 jimmy). Didn't even know they had a clamp

Re: PO has me PO'd
oil pan is up,but not without a struggle. My all thread didn't work as planned, the back corners hit the all thread, but the front was ok. I've bought 2 of these gaskets and neither on came with those 4 gizmos that help with installation
I have to open up the holes in the clamps for 1/4-20 studs. I have a press / punch with dies, want to see if it works on SS, I have to find the pliers that close these clamps [url=https://flic.kr/p/2gspivY]20190706_101712 [url=https://flic.kr/p/2gsp2LF]20190706_101726 [url=https://flic.kr/p/2gsp48J]20190706_101800

Re: PO has me PO'd
I always glue the gaskets, even the one piece, to the pan with black RTV and let it sit for a few hours or overnight. I put the pan bolts down through the holes to keep them aligned, and also use some blue tape. Gasket stays on the pan whether it is upside down when installing on an engine stand or when putting it on the engine when it is in the truck.
It's looking good Jim.

Re: PO has me PO'd
The one piece gaskets don't need any glue or RTV. Just make sure the block and all mating surfaces are clean and bone dry.
Here's the Snap-ups you're talking about. Don't know how I put up a pan and gaskets before without them. Huge difference. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-es72863 |

Re: PO has me PO'd
thanks for your ideas guys, but I sorta went with both, just RTV'D the 4 corners where it made a sharp bend. ran my primer device yesterday and no leaks so far. But, who knows what will happen when the engine gets up to temp. and full pressure.
the pan is a 8 quart, just a heads up, they didn't deburr inside where it was cut and welded so be careful when you wipe it down [url=https://flic.kr/p/2grFkpA]20190705_095016 thanks for the link on the parts AJ. I just may buy them and keep in tool box

Re: PO has me PO'd
my shop is empty, moved over to injection connection, sure feels like a load has been lifted from my shoulders. I'll let Dale handle my problems for now....
first problem he saw was the sealing of the pump to tank, he offered suggestions. I'll post up when I get more info. Yes, that is one of the shelving units loaded with Jimmy parts, I'll sell them off as I don't use them [url=https://flic.kr/p/2gEFFfj]20190722_194138[ one eye instead of four [url=https://flic.kr/p/2h7pLiM]20190829_100502 [url=https://flic.kr/p/2h7pLo6]20190829_100619[

Re: PO has me PO'd
When I lived in MT I’d drive my k20 in salt free snow and had a good time. Too much salt here to consider it. I’m told that some car washes here recycle the undercarriage wash and it can be like brine - I’ve identified a car wash that doesn’t recycle water.
Thanks for the good words. Having a great time here!
