Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Hey I just read all these pages the last two days at work. It is an amazing truck. Now I know you said you were tight on money and driving it around and I know looking over to glove box must be a little annoying. I am a supported member of the 73-87chevytrucks.com and have install the Dakota VHX gauges in a truck before and they tie into newer engines and electronics. It gives you the old look but has all the controllers under dash and you can add things like compass, temp, cruise, gear indicator, etc. I am sure with all the stuff you make and knowledge you have you may already know, but I love there silver VHX gauge for the more factory look, but more reliable and versatile use.

Anyways great project and here's a link in case you do not know.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I just wanted to say hey to everyone out there in internet-land and mention that my truck made Hot Rod Magazine again this year! It's really not important, but it was fun to open my November issue and see on page 65 a long shot of the Memphis stop of the Power Tour. We happen to be on Beale Street at night for the after party, second to last car in the lineup. The staff went around during the day show and picked their favorite 100 cars to be invited to line up on Beale Street. It was a blast to be selected! We got a 20 motorcycle police escort from the race track to downtown Memphis, never stopping once for about a 45 minute drive. Then they had us very carefully back up sideways to the curb on one of Memphis' biggest tourist attractions. Very cool indeed. We stayed about 4 hours and answered all the same questions over and over and over. I'm sure this site had a big bump in numbers that night!

Seems too low to me. Could you replace it for $32K? or buy nice truck/burb start all over and you do all the labor again ?

Never been to Grand Turk, but it doesn't take much to twist my arm. My list of pre-requisites for a retirement home reads pretty simple:
-Tropical weather
-Clear water
-White sand
-Cold beer
... and a bed.

I just checked a few dates and flight info. Our vacation for this summer is already booked, but I looked at a few dates in the fall. Much easier to rent from someone that you feel like you know.
I'd absolutely love to rent to some of you guys who seem responsible!

I found the place while on vacation there, I was bored and just went to look- you see how that turned out! I ended up totally gutting it, so it is all new with all new furnishings - thanks Pottery Barn OUTLET.

On another note, Frankie's rear is blown apart, I'll try to get some pics up soon.

If it was me, I would say no. But I tend to get attached to my trucks. Especially the ones I have built myself.

No. That's a 60K truck at least. I came thru Memphis Tuesday evening in a thunderstorm, was looking for you on I40, but you must have been elsewhere.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

No pictures, but I had an epic failure on the road yesterday. Panhard rod snapped in two! It has a sharp 90 degree bend in it as it goes over the diff and a huge whack on a potholed gravel road did the trick. I realized there was an issue when I started smelling tire smoke, as I pulled over a huge cloud passed me on the passenger side. UH OH. As I was feeling around in the dark (5am duck hunt), I discovered the inner sidewall was quite soft and gooey, the axle had shifted over and the inner tire was rubbing the fenderwell. Luckily it hadn't blown out.
We unloaded the 4wheeler, drove it to the duck blind, hunted a few hours and then dealt with Young Frankie. We borrowed a trailer, towed it to a barn with a welder, pulled out both sections and welded it back together on the dirt. Put it back in and drove her home 2 hours with no issues. I guess its time to put Frankie back in the shop and reopen this build thread! I have a few things I want to build differently and a few things need to get finished that never did. And no, I have no desire to build a 4th door. In fact I hope to not do anything that would require any paintwork. The fun should begin in a few days!
