Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I gave my truck its first bath to get all the shop dust off it and took it for its first drive. Still a few bugs to sort out but its getting there.

FarmerSid, a fine job of fabbing up everything, good work.

55metalmonkey, gotta be great to have it move for the first time. You have the near exact paint scheme I'm planning on just slightly different colors. Do you have more picks showing more angles of around the truck, it's looking good from here? Thanks.

Thanks all, yes I have a video of a full walk around after it was painted. Just go to YouTube and type in my name. I have a few vids on there of the major things as I got them done. And should be uploading a new one now that its mostly done.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Thanks Jim! Got the recessed firewall, floors and trans tunnel done. Huge milestone for me. Got like 40 hours in it. Now off for Easter dinner at my parents place. They are building a new house so we are all going to check out the progress.

Happy Easter to all!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Got the e brake sorted out, ended up welding a new bracket on nice painted frame (arghhh) and redoing the cable connection. Here is the bracket, details in the build thread.

Also figured out that my carb may not be bad either. I put in a solenoid that will increase the idle when the ac is on. I had not but a switch in the circuit yet. When I started the truck it idled a little fast, so I turned it down. Then is stopped idling all together. In the heat of the moment the solenoid was forgotten. Yesterday I discovered the wire had come off the connector, shorted to the manifold and blew the fuse, probably when I was test running, hence the change in idle. When I get some time I am going to pull it out and try it again to see if that is the issue. Hope so, will save me $300 for a new carb.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Installed seats (another steal from OrrieG, thanks.); need to figure out how to remove head rest or get a smaller steering wheel to flip drivers seat up.
Gas pedal needs to go up about six inches otherwise comfortable fit.
Happy Easter!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Put a gallon of MEK in the old gas tank on Saturday afternoon to soak & try to get rid of the 3" of black nastyness in the bottom.

Drained it out today and hit the inside of the tank with a pressure washer. Followed that with some alcohol to dry it out.
Looks like it all came out!

Inside looks pretty decent. A little bit of surface rust- but overall not bad for an original tank- I think i'm gonna try and run it.

Going to wirebrush some spots on the outside and bottom then hit it with rustoleum and re-install.

Tank will eventually get replaced with an under the bed unit- but for now I just wanted to get it clean enough to run the truck and get it on the road again.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Painter came to look at the truck last night! Time to strip it down and trailer it to his place. He will do the cab first then feed me parts to keep going. Lots to do!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Rear wheels all painted and ready for tires! I was expecting the "dark steel" paint to be a little darker but I think this works. Not overly concerned with the look anyway (especially since the fronts are plain old GM factory wheels), just wanted to clean things up and get down the road. Needed a small repair to one of the fronts, which is done. Now I can do the final cleanup and get those painted as well, then it's off to the used tire store...

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Hey Dropout, nice truck man! I'm just in the next county... maybe see you at some of the GV car shows?
On my truck, I got the lap belts bolted in & discovered a "gotcha" for using the B-pillar to mount the shoulder belt. After that I called it a night.
