Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Tore out a fence panel and gate post, and set a new post. Well, the son did, and I helped. I was just the gopher, but my back hurts anyway. The old fence panel and gate were cedar fence pickets, rotted out after 20 years. The nerve. New gate and panel are welded angle iron frames with 2X6 con heart redwood. They'll last until long after I'm dead! Still waiting for the to concrete to kick. I'll get a pic when the fence panel and gate are installed.

I always said when I get old I'm going to be one of the old guys sitting around the general store potbelly telling stories. I'm getting there, but I'm not sure how Dollar General will feel about it

I like that parlor stove. I had one similar in my bedroom when I rented a farmhouse with no heat. I like the end-loaders. Just slide the sticks on in. That's how my stove is

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I went to the DMV. One of the perks of living in a small town is that I was the only customer there. I guess I did do a little to my 70 CST. I finally registered it. Cost a lot because I told the truth of what I paid for it. But I also got my disabled plates. So it's official now. I am officially disabled in the eyes of the state of California. Maybe they'll give me a break on my taxes now. Probably not. More like definitely not. But I do get the good parking spots now.

I took my walker because I have trouble in that parking lot and knew I'd be standing a while. I got the paperwork going on the green Bug and the Jag. I had the wrong papers. Funny how nice people are to you when you have a walker. I had a lady open the door for me. I should have tried this one years ago before I got jacked up. People treat you nice.
The camber on my truck looks funny in the pic. But I just checked it and it's fine. Just a trick of the light.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I have one like your second picture I used in my shop in a barn. A pole building with corrugated tin on the roof and walls. I spanned pipe between the walls and laid blue plastic tarp across at about 8' high. That antique stove might not have been efficient, but I could work on a cold winter day in there wearing just a t-shirt. Not a stitch of insulation in there and daylight shining through gaps and nail holes, and a concrete slab.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yeah Tim
them stoves are highly sought after,, forget what I got out of mine ,,it did leak smoke out the cracks it got from getting red hot from previous owners ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, here is another stove I put in my house along with building the alcove that went out from my living room wall into my garage for the stove safe place to be incased with concrete below ,on the sides and top .

Now to keep this thread to what it is meant for ,, the other day I rolled my infared 220 volt hearter out and worked on my snow blower carberator.. great heat if you dont want to heat the whole garage up when the job you are doing is only couple hours

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That is a great looking stove Larry. My wife keeps nagging me to put a better looking one in but the one we have works just fine. Hey if it aint broke. If she starts talking about it I turn on my "selective' hearing. I don't hear her.

Today I paid my homeowners insurance on the new place that I haven't even moved into yet. Insurance companies do not like you if you live in a fire and flood zone. They didn't like me $3,387.00 worth of not liking me. Nope. Not a cheap date. If I could cuss on here I'd say something that rhymes with duck.

Tell me about it. It would take a flood of biblical proportion to reach me..... but fires are a whole 'nother story. Several insurers refuse to write a policy here.
I found one that will and gave 'em my business. Hope like heck I never need to use it.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

He said he's got a truck to cut up . I knew what you meant. It's justa letter.

I cut away some of the gutter left behind grown into the tree. Since the tree was against the building (and then some) leaf debris built up and it became a place for roots to sprout out of the middle of the tree. Never seen anything like it. Here is a section of gutter with corresponding section of root system. I literally peeled it out of the gutter

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That part of the gutter remaining will have to get swallowed up and barked over. All that above it is a combination of building and mini roots. The roof was cedar shake so it's all integrated now, along with the fascia board and even fiberglass insulation. I'm going to hack away at all that.

I built that barn in the late-'80s. The tree grew into it so I moved the building. Behind the building is about 5' to the back fence with steps going upstairs. I never see back there except when I need to get something from upstairs or from under the 4 x 8 deck/porch I closed in. I never completed a lot of the work, out of sight/out of mind.

Over time I did some stuff in spurts. Like building the steps and deck, then closing that in. I framed for windows, installed, and trimmed. But the soffit and fascia still were undone. I came across the remaining poplar boards while moving things around, so I used them up on that uncompleted work. Also finally put batten strips up so the lean-to side will be tighter/drier. It feels good to get it done for the sake of having it done. Other than that, it's still a thing no one really sees

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I got started back into woodworking. We moved, about 3 ears ago, from CA to ID. The movers we hired SUCKED!!!!! We had so many damaged items, it was ridiculous. Anyway, my tablesaw was one of those that suffered. I finally got around to truing up the blade, so that it was parallel to the grooves in the cast iron top. Once done, I started building my work bench.

If you are interested in what moving company it was, Move Central. Don't EVER use them.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Second load . This has some ash that was in the way getting to the maple . It was standing dead so the owner asked if I could cut it down . Was an easy takedown as it had no top was just the leader . Very dry already so I’ll burn it on the warmer days save the oak and hickory for when it gets cold if it ever does this winter

The maple a tree guy cut they had to climb and rope it down

I hate movers. Mine didn't break anything. I don't think it would be possible with the amount of bubblewrap and boxes that they charged me up the ying yang for. Then they sent a truck that was too small. I told them it was a 4 bedroom house. and this truck was just way too small. But they told me that they could could send another truck at my expense. Twice the price. And they wouldn't take my 60 gallon air compressor for some lame reason. I had 2 buddies and a U Haul take the rest. Left the air compressor and told my new tenant that he could use it. He sold it.

And the car shippers were just as bad. I gave them 2 weeks notice and at the 11th hour they told me only one guy could do it and it was more money. So here I was sitting in an empty house waiting on the car shippers. I paid it. What a rip off.

So here I am again. Just got the keys for my new place but this time it's going to be different. I'm not moving far and I have no deadline to get out of the old place. I haven't even put it up for sale yet. Nobody's ripping me off this time.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

After we had moved out of the house, I had gone back a couple of days later to look around. It was a good thing I did. The movers left all kinds of trash, extra tape, and moving blankets. They had also left an antique cast iron "tractor" sprinkler. Honestly, I was also sad about moving. Looking back, I don't know if I would have sold that house and left CA.

I know what you mean ..

I rented out our house to a preacher and his family for 6 months and we moved to Idaho,After 6 months being here in Idaho I went back that next summer to ready the place to sell and do some work on the house,, Them Religious people were suppose to be done cleaning the place as we agreed and moved out...

it was that very day they has just started ,, I found that the Preacher had set up a long metal tub in my shop to work on transmissions /radiators and the floor for the first time ever was covered with tranny parts ,,oil ,rust, grease 1/2 inch deep and rags all over and on my long work bench ,, They also hit my rock wall at the drive way entrance I built and broke it all over..I was very unhappy and told him so ,, he said he didnt know that had happened ,,,I told him that I wanted he floor cleaned before they left ,,I left as to mad to even watch them ,, he took a preasure washer and washed all of it out into the gravel entrance plus all over the walls ,,

The carpet was all black from oil ,, the whole house was neglected of daily cleaning '

and also in the house Mrs Preach sold or give away a rack of some 75 DVD movies the my wife left them to see as to be nice and and I would bring them home after selling the house ,,the list goes on.. but best I quit here as it makes me mad all over again at my self for helping them out by renting to them cheap just to have some one living there so none of the stuff that did happen did happen anyway by these people of the cloth .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Still messing around with this @$%& camaro.
Had to pull the muncie out after toasting a t/o bearing.
Decided to check the speedometer drive. Not turning, rebuilder didn't
Even bother to put a drive gear on it. So..... I took it apart and put one on it to match up with my drivetrain. Nothing is ever easy. Good news is, everything inside looks crisp. Hopefully, it will work out.Of course the pin came out inside the case when I pulled the tailshaft. I got it all together and back in the car.

Depends on the tree and the sugar content of the sap . A couple of them consistantly produce 4% the others around 2% . 4% will be about 27to1 ratio of sap to syrup 2 is about 40to1 .

But the average is 3 to 5 gallons of sap per tap a day
