Assembled one of my seats last night. Glued the cover onto the foam so that it would follow the contours. These seats have no listing wires in the foam.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Started out a couple of weeks ago and saw a radiator fluid leak on the pass side. It's a fairly new Champion 4 core. Today I took on the removal and research. Pulled it and it turned out to be a clamp on a vacuum line keeping my lower hose from clamping on there nice and tight. Got it and now I'm back on the road.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Well I was looking forward to a little shop time doing a few SMALL things on the truck. When I closed the hood I heard a little "ping" and noticed the hood up on one corner. The rear hood bolt decided to pop it's captured nut out of the hood. The wife and I got the hood off the truck without any scratches, and it's now ready for repairs. Since access is good I took off the heater box and going to replace the heater core and blower motor. Then remove the glovebox and replace the blower resistor. Plus I'm sure I'll find a few more things along the way.

I got the radiator loose from the 350 in my '71 GMC Jimmy. Later I'll get it to Precision Radiator for a tank repair.

My temporary tailgate keepers . I don’t want to have chains hanging even with rubber on them as the swaying back and forth with dust will scratch the paint . I’m thinking of making a slid out rod that would be stored in the bed top curl to support the gate in the open position.

Good idea. Kinda like the umbrella holders on a Rolls Royce.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Put 170 miles on the stepper . It’s getting a little over 13 mpg . 250 I6 ,SM 465 with 4.57 gears . Truck is really buzzing around 60 mph with the 265/75 16 on it . But it runs great and I really am liking driving it . Manual steering and drums aren’t my preferred setup but it’ll lock up the brakes and I can turn it if a creep along . My next project on it will be doing the disc conversion I have the spindles rotors and calipers off a 72 also the center link . Think I’m going to make them manual disc

My biggest thing is how hard would it be to put a 5 spd in it ? Will the later transmissions from say a Camaro work ? Think it would make it a little more civilized at highway speeds

That trans would handle the torque from an I6, and give you better mileage and drivability. What's not to like?

13 MPG is pretty good. I would change out the very low farm gears to a streetable 3.73:1 before I pulled a transmission swap.
A friend had a factory T-5 in his S/10 [forgot what year] and we changed it out three times.
On my Stepside C/10 '68 w/292 L6, SM465, 3.73 and 235/85/16, I find the Drums all-around work well enough if maintained. But I've only been driving it for 49 years and 10 months.[406,000 miles].

Maybe I'll change my mind next month.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Earlier in this page I mentioned about my nearly new 4 row Champion radiator issues. Was not the hose. Dropped it off at a shop locally. We will see.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Today I left the radiator from my '71 GMC Jimmy's 350 at Performance Radiators in Tucson. The only remaining old school shop in town for copper/brass radiators.
It had a tag on it indicating it was new in 1998, which is about right, as I re-engined that truck with a Mr Goodwrench 350, Weiand intake, Carter AFB, and Heddman headers around then, getting it on the road in Jan. '99.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

As I recall from the info packet from Chevrolet Heritage, GM tended to make the shortbed stepside trucks half-ton, and the longbed ones three quarters.
But if a buyer specified he wanted a longbed half-ton, or a shortbed 3/4 ton, they were more than happy to build it for him.

Installed LED bulbs in dash cluster, now I can see the guages at night. Also installed a 15" steering wheel.
